Well i just had my car in for a $14 28pt safety check thru pedder's just to see if they could find out what the knocking noise is coming from my front end was.

Apparently they couldnt pin point the exact cause of the issue.

But they did find the following which could be contributing to the noise:

Rack Mount bolts loose (they tightened for now)
Possible suspect seized LHS rack end
Leaking Steering rack LHD rack boot leak
Sub frame bolts loose on both side. (they tightened for free)
Lower ball joints are worn on both sides
Rear Upper & Lower trailing arm bushes loose.

They went over the car for nearly 2 hours tightening things up where they could. When I left I did notice the car wasn't making as many noises as it was and it felt tighter to drive, but the knock was still there although not as prominent.

All up the fee structure to supply and fit the above work goes like this:

Ball Joints - $128
Steering Rack & pinion - $440
R&R Trailing arm bushes - $490
Fitting Labour - $550
Wheel Align - $55
Workshop consumables - $10
GST - $152.10

Total - $1673

Anyone think these prices are acceptable???

congrats, you've just relised that pedders are expensive C***.

take that list to a reputable mechanic and tell him to go over it for a second opinion. then get a quote on the same stuff. he'll do 95% of the work for 50% the price. and either way your car will drive a hell of a lot nicer

7mnths later no leakage and no failure hmmm

ive found them to be reasonable funnily enough......i took the car up for the $15 suspension check, and all they found was rooted front & rear shocks which i knew anyway.

And ive been getting quotes lately to get my already purchased front springs & camber kit fitted plus wheels alignment, and the same Pedders store are roughly $70 cheaper than all other quotes ive been getting so far

Thats the point of the $14 28 point saftey check to bring in buisness.

You say they spent 2 hours looking at your car im sure they aren't on $7/hour are they...
:)
They are just trying to draw you in for buisness and try and replace things that arent even required as Froudey mentioned.

No body does something for nothing these days...... :x

I guess it depends on which franchise you go to.

I got this quote from the bloke I got my other suspension parts from, supply only.

Hi Shav,

Lower ball joints @ $35.00 each inc

Rear upper trailing arm (FRU5) @ $100.00 inc pair

Rear lower trailing arms (FRL3) @ $135.00 inc pair

Shav, yesterday you asked me about a steering rack,I did say no,but later thought about this and recalled finding them in Melb(had to go thru old emails) $350.00 inc, these didn’t have urethane r/ends and we needed to know if yours had a speed sensor.

The lower rear trailing arms are in stock the rest I would have to get in.

May as well price the trailing arm bushing while im here

RTA lower front bush (SPF875K) @ $65.62 inc

RTA lower rear bush (SPF623-80K) @ $73.37inc.

RTA upper all (SPF874K) @ $87.26 inc

All bushing in stock

Are these good prices for supply only?

I don't ant to have a go at ya shav etc but how many like spart part outlets do you have in your area. if it was me i would site down witha pen and paper and a phone book ring all the spare parts blokes and get prices i have done this many a time you will find that random parts will be random prices at random places. and then ring like front end mechanics and get a quote etc. then work out what is the best way to go.

Appreciate that suggestion Froudey. I personally am not out for the cheapest price, but I dont want to be ripped off either. If its within 5-10% of the going rate, then I will accept that. The other issue is I dont have a lot of time to ring people and go to 12 different places in the attempt to save maybe $100. I know it sounds dumb, but its the way I see it thats all.

Plus there arent that many places around in SA that are willing to come down in price. Most just say, good on ya, go there then. Thats my experience with certain things.

Well i can see exactly what ya mean, you will find most parts are 5 to 15% close to each otherbut it is the labour to get this parts fitted that is the killer (somewhat)

I went to Bruce's Heinrich's yesterday to get another opinion on this issue.

He basically said there is nothin wrong with my suspension and that it was in excellent order. He did however notice my intake pipe from the supercharger was knocking on my shocker tower. So he put a rubber grommet on the area affected, and by gosh....no more noise!!!!

So to cut a long story short, the fix was simple, it cost me nothing and Im happy.

Bruce is the best!!!
