Simple question but just unsure..
Wheres the safest place to put jack stands when your not using a trolley jack? heres the car jacked up on one side using the stock jack cheers

You should ALWAYS use jack stands, even if you are using a trolley jack. The best place is under the chassis rails.

Yeah i know that, but if i was using a trolley jack i would jack up the car from the middle and put the stands where the stock jack is now...no So just next to the exhaust there on that rail... |

Yup, you got it. But of course, where possible, leave the jack under the front cross member as well, just in case the stands are not stable. |

righto cheers. Just that the stands i got didn't look wide enough to fully 'cup' that rail. Maybe some different ones will do the trick. Thanks again

actually whos got ramps that fit under a stock ba XR....? most look too steep to not hit the front bumber. what brands...?

Hard to find ramps for lowered cars. Best bet is to get the high ones and see if anyone wants to fabricate some longer steel ramps on for you. Or drive the car on some wide blocks of wood to clear the ramp... What I do is, get a trolley jack, jack the front up high enough for the ramps to fit under the tyres and then lower the car on the ramps...though you'd want a good quality trolley jack...and pref one that is also lowered so you don't scrape the front bumper while pumping. phong =P~

If its a BA your talking about, when you refer to the middle - hope that doesnt mean the diff. Heard the BA IRS doesn't like that at all.

Haha Phong I hope you don't scratch my ramps! They were like new when I gave them to ya!
Seriously though. My dads best mate died when a car he was working under came down on him because it wasn't on stands. Make sure you are all 100% safe when working under cars.

Im gunna get my jack stands and weld a bigger section on the top of them so they fit the chassis rail... should do the job nicely

Weld them? I wouldn't recommend it. You don't want to compromise them.
I truly reckon it's worthwhile spending some $$ to get the biggest, safest stands available (within reason). Think of what they're going to protect - you. In my 17 years of playing under cars I (thankfully) haven't had any stands drop on me, but I've seen plenty of them bend, buckle and slip once the weight's on and the car moves even slightly. Don't muck around. It's not worth it. |

LoL...I'm scared to use those ramps but i still do. its gone from rusted...to even more rust. Once the car is on the ramps though, I put 2 sets of jack stands on the chassis rails. If the back end is also raised I put another set of jack stands and tyres. Bit overkill but better to over kill then get killed. phong =P~

I used ramps to change my oil but they are a pain in the a**. They kept slipping out and at one stage, my car nearly went over the side of them. :S
I get paranoid about working under a car. I would personally use jack stands and also have the trolley jack extended underneath just out of contact with the car in case one of the stands gives way.

im at work now bout the weld the new tops on the stands that will fit the chassis rail.. dont worry i plan to leave two jacks..one either side on the jacking points aswell:) with the weight on the stands
