not ford related, but figure the principals are the same:

driving the g/f's hyuandi accent - 5 speed manual - on occasion (and only recently) is wants to jump out of 2nd - you go to change from 2nd to 3rd, engage the clutch, start to move the gearstick & it rockets out of 2nd - it has yet to do it whilst driving in general, but i'd imagine it will eventually

so i have no idea about manuals - any thoughts? its still under warranty so i'd like to get it covered if i can

yeah bob had the same thing happen to my old corolla in 4th, what happens is the Gates that hold the stick in gear in nuetral are starting to wear and once they go you'll find it will pop out of gear while driving and then it'll get so bad that you can't even put it into gear with out it just popping out and 2nd will be useless.


Well that's what happened to mine anyway and could be completely different to the excel.

my eb does that every now and again, makes a loud fukker of a clunk and then herro sailor its in neutral, happens when the gear isnt properly engaged...

typical hyundai gearbox,ive driven a few of em and they all want to crunch into 3rd if you do anything more than a granny change...

yeah my box does that when i downshift into second, i think a re-build should sort it out
