lost all my brakes the other night, im assuming that the booster has s**t itself, big hissing sound from under the dash and the pedal is hard as a rock.

The pedal went right to the floor at first, but still pulled up ok, got out and checked the fluid levels, nothing in there. I filled it up 2 weeks ago. Anyhow keep driving to the servo for fluid and the pedal stiffened right up and the car really doesnt want to pull up, along with the big hissing sound.

Any ideas? Im thinking booster...

pulled the booster out today, tried an EB booster but the output shaft is different. Gonna go to the wreckers tomorrow for an EF booster, does anyone know how much wreckers usually charge for a booster?

cheers

the master isnt leaking, the passenger front bleed nipple was though, there was fluid all over the inside of my wheel, so i took the nipple off and retightened it, not dripping now. oh well, just means i get a day off work tomorrow cause i've no way to get there!

if it was leaking, i'd be re-bleeding the whole system too.

Filling it up 2 weeks ago sounds pretty disturbing - fill and bleed the fluid system and make sure it's 100% - any loss of fluid should be attended to ASAP.
Sounds like the master cylinder is okay - rebolt it to your old booster and check, booster could be still okay, but does sound it could be cactus by the hissing noise, although the loss of fluid may possibly be the only problem.

I had a hissing noise too when I was still in sydney.
I kept asking people - and they said "its nothing"

I then lost the brakes trying to stop at an intersection of victoria rd, and kissing point rd. luckily the handbrake worked!!

I pulled into the servo right there, and they said there was nothing wrong - I made them take it for a drive and the guy comes back "F**k... you got no brakes, must be the pads" (pads had been replaced about 1 month before hand)

I then took the car elsewhere to get the mastercylinder fixed.

the booster is definately rat s**t, this same problem happened to my mates old EF, was the booster, but the car got written off before the booster was fixed. Im picken up a booster from the wreckers today for $77, ill chuck that in, put new fluid in and bleed the brakes. See how that goes, if not, new master cylinder tomorrow

Thanks fellas, was the brake booster. Replaced it before and the hissing is gone now, brake pedal feels normal again (just needs to be bled now).

Cheers
