Hey Guys,
I got a BA Falcon V8, when i give it a bit off the line i hear a knock like something is loose, it only knocks once at the exact same time it takes off. and it also does it when i chuck it in a lower gear. The gearbox has 40K on it, and the rear shocks have been replaced. Would it be the diff bush? Anyone have this problem before or ideas what it might be? I don't trust Ford as far as i could throw them, theyll probably try sell me a flux capacitor or something. Thanks in advance,

Typical Ford. I swear they design them so they can rob you for maximum labour when s**t breaks. And if you talking bout the part i think you are, you need a hoist to remove the whole IRS Cradle.

Yeah, i want to do the diff ratio and lsd but dont have the money so it looks like it will be collecting dust in the garage for the next six months while i save the money. No point doing the bushes then taking it all out again to do the ratio and LSD. This car has been the biggest POS lemon man. If i spent as much on mods as i did fixing it, it would be doing 10's by now.

Had a peek under the car just then and it "looks" flogged, just gotta get someone else to chuck it in and out of drive while im lookin at the diff to see if it moves heaps then ill know if its broken or not. Found this on the net though. Would love to know how he got the camera to stay there haha. http://www.vimeo.com/5447798

Hey Mate,
You see that centre nut at the top? That's where the diff bush is, it moves up and down alot if the diff bush is gone. But im not sure what would be considered "normal", so if in doubt take it to a diff specialist.

Yeah i spoke to the diff bloke, and according to him on the BA's its not supposed to move at all. Have a good look through this thread aswell, they talk about control blade bushes, sway bar bushes and the side diff bushes. and are a couple of examples/symptoms of both. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... ge=1&pp=30 Personally, im going to get every bush in the back end done while they have the IRS out, putting in an LSD and 3.9 gears at the same time too. Should set me back $3650 all up fitted. Then hopefully that dam IRS never has to come apart again. Getting ontop of this cars design flaws is sending me broke.

ahhh thanks for the read mate, well i got under the rear and just had a look and what the hell, mine doesn't look like your pics or the video, there is this weird bell shaped cover so I can't see if the bolt is moving - this normal? mine is a BF but I doubt they would put this in between the BA and BF

yeh definately normal. the best way to check if i need to replace diff bushes is to get a pry bar, wedge it in towards the bottom of the diff and move it up and down. whilst doing this check to see if your diff bushes are split (rubber bushes) or have heaps of movement (metal bushes)
