just thought i'd ask you if you were more interested in fitting wheels which improved your air resistance rather than increasing your drag with wider wheels. Increasing areodynamics involve removing unwanted forces from the rotating wheel.... for example if you look on a formula one car they haven't reduced the weight of the wheel they added a extra piece to improved the areodynamics from the rotating wheel under extrame forces...

I'm using a given tyre size, which gives the best handling/ride/cost compromise on my vehicle, and seeing what the lightest mag I can use is. My interest in lower unsprung weight is due to possible improvements to handling (more responsive suspension), ride (more responsive suspension), acceleration (lighter overall vehicle weight + specifically rotational weight) and fuel economy (lighter overall vehicle weight). I'm interested to see for myself if they can make a tangible difference in any aspect of driving (not just handling). There's no doubt they will make some difference, though I doubt it will be tangible in normal driving...which is why I've sourced a cheap set to find out. I will say though that re-locating my battery to the boot (15kg of re-positioned weight?) made a very significant and tangible change to handling and ride. I didn't think that would make a difference either... Joe

Hi Joe,
Just a quick question that hasn't been addressed yet - have you found the hub centre diameters between the Jap wheels and our Falcon ones to be the same? I'm actually looking for a second set of wheels myself, but I know that the hub centres can differ quite a bit, usually with the Falcon one's being larger. Cheers! |
