Hey guys,
this question has probably been asked a million times. but a friend has invited me to a burnout thingy at kwinana. i would like to go, but i know for a fact my car doesnt go so well with the foot on brake and gas method that well. its a ba mk2 xr6 auto, 4 speed sadly. the idea of line blockers has come up and i would like to know more about them such as. what do you guys use? clamps? proper line blockers? and the price i'd be looking at. cheers for the help guys

hey mate, yer im going with a set of line lockers to lock my back brakes off and it cost me $90 not to bad i guess i will hav to tell ua how they go when they rock up.

They are just a solenoid, not really that exciting to look at hahaha
when they are shut the obviously prevent brake fluid from getting to the rear calipers, hence no brakes. If you want them to work really well for burnouts, hold your foot flat on the brake, and then activate the line locker. Apply full lock, make 100% sure to tell everybody watching to get ready for some sick s**t (this is the most important step), then try and cut loose...

Steady ED wrote: Apply full lock, make 100% sure to tell everybody watching to get ready for some sick s**t (this is the most important step), then try and cut loose... haha i like that. but i just had a thought and now im wondering if it'll even work to give me a hell sick burnout when you put your foot on the brake and plant it, it'll only go to 3 grand and wont rev harder. i am told that this is something to do with a torque thingy when braking? so even without my back brakes i'll only be able to rev up to 3 grand? or is this cancelled out when the back brakes arent in use? *crosses fingers*

I have read somewhere that the BA on cars have a "power cut" so to speak when the breaks are appiled, and if you unplug or pull out the brake light fuse its supposed to bypass it, as it doesnt know the breaks are on.
Give that a go.

but if i pull that out my brake lights wont work correct? so i'd better remember to put it back in after the burnout day. haha

Hopefully removing the brake light fuse will get around that.
I have something to add. Don't be worried if the ABS light comes on after a little bit of this, the fact that the back brakes and lights aren't working will probably make it freak out. Should reset and be ok after a restart, just something I have seen happen. |

how hard are you holding the brakes on? you dont need them jammed on, maybe half to 3/4 pressure should be enough if you modulate the pressure right. the trick is to vary the pressure slightly, like bouncing the pressure in waves. once the tyres are spinning you dont need heaps of pressure to keep it relativly still, just keep enough on to keep it inching forwards.
make sure if your auto to do this in 1st gear only, as doing this in D can have very bad reprocusions to your gearbox lifespan. my mate did some burnouts in my au which runs a custom (read dodgy, fooked, rooted) auto the other weekend (since i asked him to lol). and she took easily 3+ mm of tread off in no time at all he was rather impressed and reckons its way more fun than his xr5 mondeo.

i usually have the brakes fully depressed, but i hear what your saing with bouncing the brake abit. and how come it has very bad repreocusions on your gear box if its in D?

ive had it explained to me by a transmision rebuilder, allthough i cant remember the exact terms and process. it does damage to the mechanisms involved in the gearchanging resulting in harsh changes and slipping.
aparently very bad. yeah fully jammed on brakes will = no burnout. practice the pressure needed to keep it still but also let the back wheels turn, and you wont need to spend any $$ on blockers. pretty sure i use about 3/5's until they turn, then back it off to half and just adjust brake pressure to suit the conditions. once the wheels are really turning you only need a very slight amount of brake, as theres not a lot of forward motion. practice makes perfect.

ahhhh
that does make sense. cause the gearbox would be trying to change gears, and then drop gears wouldnt it? and yes your right. i'll just have to practice haha cheers guy
