Was looking at fitting LSD to my 3.7 diff, as i'd like to get the power ive paid for to the ground lol

But others have told me that LSD is a waste of money and that it will become a single spinner in a year. I dont plan on doing ANY burnouts, but i do intend on launching the car in 1st every now and then, and take advantage of the short box/diff ratios.

I dont want any sort of spool or lockka or Kaaz($$$), so basically is fitting an LSD a waste of money?? as its going to cost me nearly $800 to get a supplied & fitted used item....

If you're not gonna do burnouts and rip it around corners, the LSD will last for ages.

That is crazy to say that it will be a single spinner in a year! Maybe a commodore LSD. If the diff has good quality lsd cones in it and is built correctly as well as being lapped in with the right tollerencees it will last a lot longer than that. I got my diff about a year ago from Mall Wood it is a 3.73 ratio too and it is showing NO sighs of dying. IT is down to the quality of the diff and the oil you use. I have been told not to use a synthetic diff oil in a coned lsd bcause it is too slick and glazes the cones. I don't want to test that theory so i stick with castrol mineral lsd oil.

It sounds like your driving style is similar to mine.

I have had my 3.45 LSD in now since March and it is still as tight as the day I fitted it. The shop did a great job rebuilding it and I am very happy.

The car is my daily driver and is a lot of fun in the wet, even with the auto.

It'll last forever and a day doing what you plan on doing.
Word of advice, if it ever does happen to single, get off it straight away.
One single doesn't mean the diff is f**k, but if you keep letting it single it will wear the cones very quickly and f**k it in no time.

yep cool, looks like LSD will be fitted soon then. Is there 'run in' period with the LSD like when diff gears are fitted?

Yes there is. the gears will probably be a bit noisy and the cones will squeek when you turn for a while but there is no running in oil and the noises go away in about a weak of normal driving. DO NOT LOAD THE DIFF UP FOR THAT TIME. you need to let everythnig bed in proberly first. I did a oil change 1 month after my new diff went in mainly because the whole thing was brand new so there was alot of metal in the oil from it bedding in.
