My 96EL Fairmont wagon has a loose and clunking steering column.
Has anyone had the column bearing replaced, if so how much did it cost? or may cost? |

Easier to change whole column.

Is it the column or the intermediate shaft?

The loose area is right above the tilt adjustment lever

Check the two upper mounts - they're essentially a stud with 13mm nuts either end, they can come loose.
I know mine in the EL somehow worked past the pedal box sheetmetal, and the column would squeak when steering - remove nuts and attach correctly, problem disappeared.
