lol maybe if your asking, then maybe you should get someone else to do it?

theres plenty of steps to be done. but its basically just swapping the parts over. if you have a workshop manual, just use that to find out how to remove shockers and springs. and just replace with your new gear. :)

The rear springs are dead easy to do, The fronts are a little more complicated. The rears you can do yourself but I'd recommend getting a professional to do the fronts.

I'm doing mine within the next few weeks (lows front, superlows rear) and will take pics and write up a doco on it...my old man is helping me (mechanic) so should all work out fine.

I have a question though and will hijack this thread, I think i remember reading somewhere that you should replace the lower control arms on EL's with the xr one when lowering, something to do with the diff angle maybe...is this correct/can I get them new from fraud/am i going to have to BYO kneeling mat to afford them?

Seriously do people google "f**k up modifications for Fords owned by Jews" and get linked straight to this site nowadays?

You have to take the struts off, apply spring compressors, very carefully compress the coil, remove the caps, remove the coils, remove the spring compressors [very carefully], install new coils, apply spring compressors, reattach everything, remove spring compressors and your done.
Easy Peasy,
Paul

Skidder,
On an EL, that would be the rear upper control arms that need to be replaced with XR6 kinked end arms. the lowers stay the same.
Try wreckers first for prices, then Burson's, Repco then Ford, your father should be able to organise a trade discount or you'll need a prayer mat.
A search will find pix and more details.
Cheers,
Paul

I hope to be snooping around wreckers with BenJ on Friday, I'll keep an eye out for some and let you know if we find any.
DaveO, if your going superlows on an EL you may want find some XR6 rear upper arms for yourself to keep your pinion angle correct.
Paul

Why change the upper arms with XR units?
Are these meant to be longer or shorter?
Do these need to be considered when lowering with just 'LOW' springs or recommended with 'SUPERS'?
Cheers.

Hazzard,
On all the e-series lows should not need special treatment.
Anything lower you must consider the pinion angle being pointed upward too much, misaligning the driveline and leading to increased wear [even if there's no thumping] and the tailshaft thumping on the floor pan under load in the more extreme cases.
The ELXR6 arms are kinked at the rear end to allow the pinion angle to be rotated down on a lowered car and attach to the lower bolt hole on an EL diff, which has three holes. The kink is to avoid the arm grinding on the axle housing as it moves up and down when driving.
Other model diffs have only one hole AFAIK. and different length upper arms from the EL..
Here is an example of an ELXR6 diff being fitted to an EB2 with superlows-
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/el-xr6-d ... 59213.html
One of my EDs has SSLows with Koni short shocks and needs the pinion angle adjusted [but that will have to wait a week or two]. The other ED has lows with standard length shocks and there are no problems. My EB2 has SLs with ELXR6 diff and needed adjusting.
Cheers,
Paul
