i want to lower my bf xr6 and not sure the which springs i should go for.
seeing as the xr6 is already quite low i only really want to drop it about an inch all around with obviously stiffer springs (which length should i get to achieve this?) and is there anything else thats recommended to change like the shocks? im most likely going to go pedders. also, ive heard about coil overs but im not exactly sure what the difference is and would it be worth looking into them? how much $$$ would i be looking at? |

If you are changing over the springs and have the money available,
I'd suggest doing the shocks as well..... Although it's from the other Ford Forums website, here is a good link on springs info etc... It's a good website, if it chooses to work properly. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11320990 Personally, I have had good results with Pedders on my BA XR6.... car lowered about 15mm from stock: Front springs: Pedders Sports Ryder #2624 Rear Springs: Pedders Sports Ryder #2633 Front struts: Pedders Comfort Gas #8422 Rear shocks: Pedders Comfort Gas #8198 Camber kit (front): Nolathane Camber Kit (x2), shim type, (including upper control arm bushes). Kit #45342. |

Wow. That's lowered to the ideal height. It looks good as.
Are they SSL rears and SL fronts? How much did it set you back? And are you scrapping anywhere? My front bumper juust clears some pavements when parking and sometimes the plastic lip on the under-carriage will scrap and I have stock springs. I have a mate who wants to sell me brand new SSL Kings rears for $50 for both. Should I take him up on the offer and then just buy the springs and all shocks from a store. |

Pedders dont use the SL/SSL type numbering system, but these springs are their lowest off the shelf spring set for the BA Falcon.. (part numbers are listed). Parts all up, including the camber kit are about the $1400 mark, install labour extra. The car doesn't scrape, but then I do drive carefully and cross driveways at an angle where required. I never park nose in on a kerb that is too high. Cant really advise you on what to buy, the choice is yours... But you certainly have the option of purchasing all the parts and having your preferred mechanic do the install... thats what I did. Oh, I didn't know that.
I figure I might as well get the King springs off my mate and see if I like them or not so at least I see if I like that height or not. Kingx and Pedders are both made in the same factory are they not? How much roughly would it cost for just springs and shocks without the camber kits? |

hey mate
Front camber kit is about $200 fitted, you might be lucky when you lower yours and have it not sqaut too hard but mine did and i chewed out my tyres badly. So i got a front camber kit fitted and just rotate every 5-7k so they wear evenly

Alright cheers.
Do you think it'll be a good idea buying my mates SSL rear King springs and putting them on with the stock shocks and everything still untill I get around to buying the front Pedders and shocks for all around? Or will my stock shocks bottom out to often or will it chew my tires? |

Depends how long mate, i drove around on stock shocks after lowering mine for about 4 - 6 weeks and was all ok (mind you mine only dropped about 1.5") so I guess there was still enough travel in them to be ok.

The white XR6 in this link is running the springs combo of stock front/Kings rear:
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpost.p ... stcount=47 Agree with phil that stock rear shocks and Kings s'low springs is not a good long term option. However, I'd also suggest some shorter rear bump stops to go with the springs... about $50 for a pair from Pedders. The bump stops are located just to the insides of the springs... |

It'll be a short term thing and I'll make sure if my springs begin to bottom out that I'll change back to stock ASAP. It'll only be for around 2 months maybe, until I organise it all.
How much would front springs and all around shocks cost me roughly? |

Pretty hard to give a firm figure, It would all depend on what shocks you got and from where. I ordered my Monroe GT sport shocks from Wholesale Suspension at Penrith directly and it was about $750 supplied and fitted. You can find them on ebay cheaper but i just didnt want the hassle of it all.
I got Peddars low springs (front and back) supplied and fitted for $400 There are of course better combos such as teins/coil overs etc but you are looking around the 2.3-2.5k mark for them all to be supplied and fitted Cheers Phil

Damn wasn't expecting shocks to cost that much...
What's the difference between springs and coilovers? |

yeah mate shocks are rather expensive. I think coilovers have the shock and the spring combined, like the shock sits with the spring around it (dont quote me on this) plus you can also adjust the height of the car withe coil overs.
Here is some more info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coilover

Ok fair enough. Yeah I think they're a bit to expensive lol.
I guess for the mean time I'll just buy my mates rear SSL Kings and use them for a while and then when I get the cash and motivation to get around to it I'll buy myself a set of shocks and the front springs. Quick question... if I've got SSL Kings on the rear what springs would be best to put on the front to make the car sit nice and level? |
