My bro had his EL lowered at the tyre factory but when we got the car back we noticed one of the caliper bolts broken in the caliper..........
we took it back to them and they said we dont touch the caliper to replace the front springs.... can anyone help with this? does the caliper have to be removed to lower the arm and change the springs?

Nah i cant see why you would need to take of the caliper to get the springs out. Where was it taken before that and what work was done?

my dad put new rotors on a couple of months before that
no one has ever worked on our cars apart from me and my dad this was the first time we handed it in to someone to get it lowered after my dad and me lowered my bros VL that he sold we couldnt be stuffed lowering another car so we let them do it so not sure what happened to the bolt but its gonna be a b**ch to get out seeing as the hole is on the other side of the rotor

I know its probably not normal to remove the caliper, but they may have because:
a) They needed to tilt the spindle out more than the caliper hose allowed or more likely b) When they put the strut back in, they put the strut on the wrong side of the hose, realised their error and removed the caliper to swap it to the other side. And when the put the thing back on, they've overtightened the bolt (musta been really really f**k over tight) and snapped it. So chances are they did break the thing and you should probably have a crack at getting them to fix it. But really, I think you're first fault was going to TTF. They are renound butchers. So I'd get it fixed elsewhere and never worry about it again. |

I have always removed the caliper as it makes it alot easier to remove the struts. Have the bolt heads got signs of recently being removed?

No i didnt check that yet joolz
my bro got a bit p****d off when he saw it and told me to put the wheel back on so that he could take the car back to them so i didnt have a proper look so i guess there is the chance that they did take it off they said there is no need to take it off but by the sounds of it they may have

Of corse they would say they didnt remove the calipers otherwise they would have to accept blame. In the past i havnt heard good things about TTF and not just from one store. There was a thread on it a while ago.

i havent heard good things about them either (especially when they wanted to give me $200 for my 4 EB GT wheels)
but i dealt with the actuall TTF owner who started the franchise, hes a friend of a friend he has to be the best guy i have ever dealt with, nicest person, gave me a VERY nice discount on the wheels & tyres i just bought, but the people they have working are complete F*ck Heads! They put new rims and tyres on my bros car and then one of the 'technicians' asked would you like us to keep your original wheels and tyres... yeah sure buddy and lose the 90% tread they have we got the car back and straight away i know they were playing with my Alpine head unit that i gave to my bro because the cd had oily finger prints and some of the settings changed and no they never disconnected the battery because the rest of my settings were still there i went to pedders once a few years ago to get my suspension fixed and they left my radio going all day and drained my battery its never the owner or employer, its the people they employ that dont care about the work, owner of the vehicle or company. i just dont like the way a lot of people work these days

I dare say its an act. I very much doubt that someone that has an attitude you are describing would unknowingly run a store with the incompetent staff that he has. I'm sure he would know that you get s**t results when you employ monkeys. JohnnyFX wrote: i just dont like the way a lot of people work these days
Which is why I - as do alot of people - no matter how hard the job, do all the work themselves. At least you can be assured the work is done with care. Who ever did the work probably did the caliper bolt up with a rattle gun. |

yeah exactly what i was thinking, that they used a rattle gun
one of my friends at work has known the guy for the past 30 years and the way he described him was exactly the type of person he was he was really helpful compared to the many people i have dealt with at TTF... he just seemed naturally helpful (maybe because of the mutual friend) but people can back stab but i dont care i mean if the guy gave you $1000 off a set of rims and tyres and you just met him for the 1st time would you complain? we had a laugh though because one of the guys leaving had a BA XR6 and tried doing a burn out until somebody walked up to his car and said 'take the traction control off' LOL

Even if the caliper bolt was broken prior to TTF lowering the car im sure they would have noticed it, yet they didnt say a thing to you about the broken bolt which in its self is a serious safety issue.

what else could have broken the bolt?
we only changed the rotors maybe 2-3 months before i thought maybe only if it was over tightened but my dad did do it by hand im not sure if any wear and tear can break the bolt half way down the thread i can actually stick a screw driver in because its only half the bolt in there i dont know i give up... ill leave it up to my bro seeing as he wants to handle it all himself
