Historically, the old leaf sprung circuit race cars (XW/XYGTs) ran lower in the rear to aid handling (or lack thereof!) and 36 gallons of fuel also helped drag the a*** down.
For drag racing, (before tubs and mini-tubs) they jacked the a*** up to allow the massive slicks to fit under the rear wheel arches and also gave enough room for tramp rods to aid traction. You don't need to jack the a*** of a car for any reason! a*** up always looks bad, regardless. To look good, level low all round or slightly lower in the rear. Like a dog with worms. No contest! |

i prefer fairly level with maybe a slight lean to the front if any. heres a pic of mine.

me i like level or slightly to the front atm my ef mont is level to slightly lower in the a** i've got a boot full of tools and sub/amp as well

Glad I came across this thread. I was gunna put my own up but will see what response I get here. Sorry for Hijacking your post windza!
I am going to lower the lane soon and wondering if anybody has lowered their NC/DC. I am looking at SL front and L rear. This is how it currently sits and I'm sick of everybody telling me it needs to be lowered  No s**t Einstein!  Oh! and it's dual fuel and have 3 kids so SL's in rear will probably be too much IMO

my car has XR6T springs in the front and pedders lows in the back, the car is usually pretty level, but i always have tools in the boot, so when im out of the car, the rear is a bit lower. When im in the car is balances out.
I think they should be more level, or front lower fractionally for handling capabilities. I saw a ZB faillane the otherday well low in teh front and normal height in the back, and it looked FU*$ING HOT. Go for what you prefer, but the car will look normal it it's even, or if it's american oldskool make it low at the back, or muscle car make it low at the front. That's just my opinion. not quite true. 335mm is minimum legal hub to guard hieght. superlows will be 345mm.

horses for I guess, I like 5-8mm higher rear, 5mm higher RHS...have all custom rolled coils...worrks for me

Geez, you learn somethig new every day - people actually drag their rears on purpose?? I always thought it was a bit of a styling faux pas, certainly was when I was a kiddie.. for years ( and to the current day, really) the hot rod fraternity talk about rake and stance - both suggest that a car should be slightly lower in the front - there was at a nutso phase in the 70's when spring shackles a foot long were considered cool...have a look at the movie Thunderbolt and lightfoot ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFIgKk-k9N8 ) - go straight to 4:18 if you want to see the crazy shackle setup , keep watching as the driver demonstrates the resulting handling !! (or watch the clip from the start to see a 51 Mercury chasing a Buick Riviera and shooting the crap out of it..) Or even better, find the whole movie - its a classic!!
I'm not saying I like the look in this clip - cos I don't - but I CAN tell you why it happened - it was just easier to get `rake' to jack up the rear (compared with having to pull out front coils to replace or cut) - this was done either with helper springs, air shocks or (instant defect) extended rear shackles....

Depends on the car man, some I think look better with a slightly lower front end, some look better sitting level. 70's muscle looks better with a slight rake forwards I think, but most of the 90's & current stuff looks better sitting level, some of them even have a natural rake look to them.

Cheers ToranaGuy Yep, I'll go with that, I agree with you 100% I reckon the bum dragger look seems mainly to come about from guys that build their cars to sit level with big tyres on the back - but then remove them and put stockies on for burnout comps...the result can be a truly weird look - hugely powerful cars with narrowed diffs but stockies that seem like they're two feet inside the wheel arch and with a bum drag as well....I think for whatever reason guys see that and think yeh, bum dragging stockies on the back are COOL!!! There are plenty of this look getting around my area, many of which don't look like they could even spin a tyre much less do a burnout...

HAHA! The only cars I have seen around with the rears dumped and the front in the clouds, are N14 pulsars with 'SSS' badges on the rear. Presumably so that they can steer with 18's on the front.
A very 'interesting' look. I think that a car should sit pretty much level, slightly higher in the rear. |

Anyone done a box car? (EA - ED) with massive offset wheels that come out flush to the guards maybe even with a bit of stretched sidewall action.... Think 80's JDM Toyota's like Crowns and Cressida's. (flared wheel arches' similar to the falcons)
If so I want pics because that's what I want to do with mine. But with sunrasia's
