Firstly, hi everyone - long time lurker, first time poster.

I have done a fairly thorough search of the forums and haven't been able to find an answer to my question.
I just bought an '97 EL with bog standard suspension. I want to lower it 1 inch in the front and 2 inches in the rear.

As it won't be too low, I'm guessing the shocks will be fine as is. But what do I need spring wise?

Any comments appreciated.

lows all around?

shocks will be fine if u stick with lows, going superlows u will need to change shocks and ride will be alot lower.

Cheers, I'll check it out.

Is there any one spring better than others? Pedders vs Kings etc?

personally i wouldnt go to superlows. A lot of people swear by them and good on them, im not bagging them, just even things like shopping centre speed humps and road works etc can all play havoc on a super-low'd car...

Yeah, I just traded my '85 LTD and it was too low. It looked great but as you alluded to, take it off the freeway and you were in big trouble...

Just go Kings, but i think Pedders might be cheaper.

speedbumps and regularly driving on dirt roads are a b**ch with superlows, ask my mate who managed to ruin the front kit of his car 2 days after getting supers all round.

i had an ea which had king lows in it, it also had difference shocks but it was a pretty good ride height 99% of the time. Once on a really poor quality dirt road i tore the lhf inner guard clean out, but i suspect even on stock springs i would have coz it was an almighty hole that i hit.

in terms of springs, the E series have always come from the same smelter. even now. pedders, kings and the rest just paint them colours to suit

Kings come from Queensland and should set you back around $110-120 a pair. Going only lows you shouldnt need a camber/castor kit but juct have the alignment checked anyways. I had supers on mine but was way too low. I now have lows(heavy duty) on the rear and supers on the front. Will go standard lows all around soon for a smoother ride.

Lows it is then. I think my LTD was on superlows and the front used to bounce and never felt settled even though the shocks were new.

There is something below lows and supers.... its called a Fairmont ghia! mine sat alot lower than the specs suggested. The specs were from a Falcon gli which is lighter.
