Would a car with an Lsd diff have stronger acceleration than the same car without one? Interested because want to get one.
Cheers

Dunno about on a stock 6cyl or 8cyl as i havnt had an LSD on one, but i find on the FBT that the lsd helps a bit as if it were simgle spinner id get crazy wheel spin therefor making my acceleration slower..
Just as good as having good tyres in that respect i guess. If you have no traction probs with a single spinner it shouldnt make any difference, unnless you upgrade the diff ration from like a 3.08 to a 3.45lsd or something.. ? Anyone else, did i get that right?

Not really. Will get power to the ground better but assuming same ratios, acceleration shouldnt be different

Oh ok. I was hoping it would get it off the line quicker, but thanks for the help.

i dont think it would make alot of difference it depends on the ratios, but daniel is right expect to get more grip on the road

I think LSDs do help.
If I stall up my Fairmont and take off, all I get is white smoke out of the right hand guard and slow acceleration until the tyre grips. (One wheel burnouts are so embarassing in a bloody V8!) Only way to take of with out wheel spin is to squeeze the pedal gently (ie. I'm not getting much of the available power to the road), until your away then you can nail it. If, on the other hand, I had the LSD I spend many days at work dreaming about, I would be able to get much more of the available power to the ground straight away, without breaking traction, and accelerate away quicker.

lsd will make it quicker even if u dont wheel spin its better have power to two wheels than one.

Haha, i found that on my fbt with good tyres, scrubbed out on the inside id go to accelerate normaly from the lights and id start to drift leftwards pretty quick, NOT good! In rain it was a shocker as id just go forward slowly but the back end was moving more than the front - new tyres fixed this and now the lsd really puts the power down to the roads HEAPS more effectively, so that proves tyres and lsd work well together, if you have s**t tyres you will just go backwards imho. Infact its only from a stop at lights with one passenger/or less that i get wheels spinin if i stomp it, and its not not nothing that will destroy my tyres or smoke up n cause a big show for people, however if i stall it upto 1500 n release they spin like a mofo and anything past 1500 results in standstill drifting left again. I found on my Sportsman having good tyres was efective as LSD in dry weather for getting power down as it didnt have enough power to cause any dramas unless it was wet, then id have to watch it as one wheel starts spinning and it can be hard to tell untill you feel the back end slide out a bit.

if you dont have a problem with wheelspin, a LSD will do jack s**t

LSD is just for traction.. Ratios make the difference in acceleration.

but as for getting off the line, forget acceleration, getting the car moving quicker then LSD is a bonus, u can stall it up higher than an non lsd would allow for, so yes you would have a better start then an non lsd counterpart assuming that normally ud be getting a bit of smoke action. As for going from 10km/ph to 100 no it wont make a snifter of difference unless again u had traction issues when changing gears. Hope that cleared up the small debate going on here, acceleration off the line (0-10km/ph) vs acceleration while moving (10km + -> x)
