It is adviseable... can't be bad for it.
Go out, get some LSD oil.. make sure its LSD oil.. while you're at it, you can get some LSD conditioning s**t... basically helps the cones grip..
You undo the bolt at the bottom, and let s**t drain out... note the colour of, and any silver chunks.. as they indicate excessive wear.. some silver s**t is fine, as these gears do wear, but you'll notice if its something bad.

And then, pour in through the BIG a** bolt on the back (after undoing it), until the liquid in the diff is up to that hole. Do bolt back in. And do some tight turns, like 5 lock to lock circles clockwise abd anticlockwise... and you're done. Enjoy.

Cheers

Yeah, what's mentioned already pretty much covers it - you can get oil plungers that screw onto normal oil containers - makes for a less messier job I find (diff oil humms enough as it is). Since your diff capacity is 1.65L, it's not hard to watch your container level (which is usually marked with the quantity), and know roughly when the level is close to the filler hole - saves having it piss out if you fill too quick. . . :x

I'd change it whlie the oil is out of the car .

Put the diff/axels onto two chassis stands, (so you can move it up and down)

You can eaither drain it from the filler hole, as above mentioned, and then tild the carrier backwards to get all the old out ..

Also, what I do when a s/c LSD comes in, is remove the rear housing, while just the diff carrier is on stands, empty all the oil unto a bucket, (it stinks like all s**t) ... also, turn the axels, because the oil goes all the way down to the rear wheel bearings .

once you done that, put a new gasket on it, and re-install the cover .

get yourself some penrite 'lim-slit' 90/140 i think, and fill it up, but turn the carrier up around again on the axel stands.

hope that makes sence!

Agreed with altedxr6 there...definately easier out of the car on jack stands. Just make sure its level when you're checking diff level.

Cheers

Any recomendations on the condition 's**t' as mentioned by justfordima? Is that like the Nulon G70 (think thats for gearboxs and diffs) or something?

I think there's a cheaper alternative.. but if you are about to whack this b**ch in, stick the penrite s**t in...

So the penrite stuff is the conditioner and then I need to get the oil aswell. Or is the penrite stuff the oil with the conditioner already in? From the way i first read it, it sounded like I fill it up with the LSD oil, and then after that add some conditioner too.

I got all the Lubricant books out at work and went through them to see what they recomend for the diff of a Ford EF Falcon Series 1 XR6:

*Castrol SAF-XA
*Mobil SHC ID
*Penzoil GPS 80W-140
*Penrite 10 Tenths Synthetic 80W-140
*Valvoline SYN 75W-140

Basically the recomendation is a synthetic in the 80W-140 range and they all said I need 1.6liters.
And Penrite Limslip is not recomended for it, it is however recomended for the AU diffs - I dunno how they differ?

I ended up getting a tube of Nulon G70 (manual gearbox and diff conditioner) and 2 1Liter bottles of Castrol SAF-XA. But since I got home I've read that the SAF-XA doesn't need any additives, so I'm not sure if I'll put the G70 in now - although I'm told it's really good stuff.
