get it reconditioned ? In the meantime try heavier oil. LSD's weren't designed for burnouts.

Get it hot and change the oil......easiest/cheapest option.....if that didn't work, then it's pull it apart and see whats worn.....may just get away with some new springs...??

Bearings are nice but I doubt will have any effect on your lsd.

If both wheels don't spin the centre is worn.

Have you tried the Ferris Bueller method?

You can try Redline 80W140 or 75W140NS Gear Oil. The 80W140 has friction modifiers already added for use in LSDs to avoid "chatter". The local Ford dealer uses it to solve most of its diff noise problems. If your diff is already single-spinning, there is limited chance of chatter, so you can use the 75W140NS. Because it lacks the friction modifier, it effectively tightens the diff up a bit. It will never compensate for significant amounts of wear, but yours might be close enough that it gets it working.

Some drag racers use this NS oil to "tune" diffs already in good condition: they start with pure NS, and add the friction modifier additive (available separately) 5mls at a time to eliminate chatter and achieve the exact amount of diff lock-up they want. I tried this in my EF XR6 (295,000 kms): there was still no chatter, but it was so stuffed that it was also still single-spinning. Nothing else for it but to get it machined. Now it's super tight, even with 80W140 with friction modifier in it.

Yeah, but the associated methodoligy is, putting it in reverse Undoes anything that has been done.

Haha...I'm sure it is pretty easy for those who do it for a living...definitely not something 90% of DIYers are capable of doing themselves.

I've looked into it and I'm going to rebuild mine .
Unless you have these tools
Torque wrench
Dial gauge ( measures force applied to spin something )
Dial indicator

It will be hard to rebuild back to proper specs .
It's not something you'd pull apart swap bearings them Wack it back together .
I've been researching it for about 3 weeks and am now feeling confident to do it .

i got told to reverse for about a kilometer to tighten up the bands in my mazda auto box, didnt do squat, altho i was 11 years of age and had been goin round dads farm slamming it into reverse so the car would spin out sideways because the handbrake never worked, and N bombing it on old tree stumps
