OK, some pics of EL upper control arms
The below pics are of the two available EL Upper control arms. The arms on the left are the 320mm Standard arms and should be mounted in the forward hole in the diff upper mounting bracket. The armes on the right are the 340mm XR arms and should be mounted in the rearward holes in the diif upper mounting bracket. This picture shows the difference in length. 
This picture shows the kink in the end of the XR arm to allow clearance for the diff housing.

On the EL diffs yes there are 3 mounting holes but only 2 can be used. If the wrong ones are used the pinion angle would be out heaps and if the installers didnt notice it they shouldnt even be changing a wheel. The Shorter EL standard trailing arms mount to the front holes and the EF or EL XR trailing arms mount to the rear holes. The centre one isnt used as the hole is D shaped so a bolt cant be inserted.

EF XR Upper Arms Mount only on a EF diff.
EF XR Arms are different at the chassis. They have a modified bracket only usable on an EF diff. Dont use EF arms on the rear most on an EL diff. EL diff to EF/EL chassis, use the Smaller EL uppers on the Front most holes. Or acquire EL XR arms and mount on the rear most. Or as most people seem to do, drill out the upper hole and use the EF standards, however I'm not convinced its in the optimal position.

Thanks again for all that guys. Wouldn't happen to know where a man could get a pair of XR trailing arms would you? Apart from my local wreckers as I can't seem to find anyone who has a pair.

Have you confirmed yet what the problem is? You may not need to do more than change the hole the arms are in, providing they're EL arms. If they're not and you only need std EL arms, they're not hard to find. Cheers, Mac

I realise.
I'm 99.99% sure the problem is what you guys have been saying but I cannot confirm it yet. I've had exams all week and I've still got one more on Monday so I haven't driven the car since I found the problem. As soon exams are over I'm going to climb under the car and check. If the arm is in the incorrect hole, I'll move it. I'll also be grabbing a pair of Noltec or Nolathane adjustable arms to replace the standard ones when I get the rest of my replacement bushes. I know it's overkill but I figure I may as well do it seemings I'm spending the money on the rest of the bushes.

No because thats just the bracket that mounts the upper trailing arm to the body
You need to take a pic of the actual arm itself, and the mounting point at the diff.

Finished exams so I jacked up the car...
The arms are mounted to the front-most holes. This is where they should be mounted IF they're EL ones... correct? So maybe they used my standard EF ones... I'll measure them and see. If they are EF ones I'll have to get some EL ones...
