Hi there,
I have a fairmont ghia here and i'm pretty sure its meant to have a stock lsd yet only one wheel spins. What causes this to happen? |

A worn out centre will cause it to single peg. does it double leg on gravel single or tar? worn out centre is my guess.

My Diff is an LSD but only one wheel in operation. The centre cone parts is worn, costs a lot to fix Genuine ford.

thanks guy, I'm not sure if both wheels kick in on gravel. . I was think of putting a mini spool in it as its an older car and is basically there to flog. Would there be any complications of putting the spool in with this current diff? A part from the obvious cons of the spool

pretty sure you cant put a mini spool in a lsd centre, but you can in an open slip, and its ilegal, and it will piss you off driving around roundabouts it will scweal the wheels and your turning circle is longer, and you will have more chance of breaking s**t

If it's an EF1 then I am pretty sure it never came with Tickford goodies, including the LSD. If it's an EF2, then yes you should get it checked out.
Mini spools ain't going to give you any favours on the roads, more of a hassle and less convenient really. If you plan on using it on the drag strip, may be worth it if you spend enough time at the drag strip. Also...if you plan on flogging it, I think the diff is the least of your worries.

yeh i figured they wouldn't. . Well it doesn't have a tickford head so i assume it series I. . Did they still make the Series I in the later models though? I thought an lsd was just standard with ghia models

I thought an lsd was just standard with ghia models I'm pretty sure, but don't quote me on this, that EF series 1s didn't come with the LSD diff. It was optioned I believe. However to double check, you can always look at the tag on your diff to see if it has the LSD stamp and ratio, could be 3.23 or 3.45 LSD.

you're 18 - if you put a spool in the car - the car is liable to put you through a fence!
hunt down an lsd from the wreckers if you must have one that bad!

Dude, learn to drive a car properly before even remotely considering a spool. They are a C*** to drive, illegal, and void your insurance if found. Buy my LSD that will be up for sale soon and fit that instead.
