Just to settle an argument, does a good mechanic have to take off the back brake discs on an AU Series 2 sedan to machine them or u machine them on the car? :?

from what i have seen, they would havetotake them off tomachine, not sure if there is a way u can do it while still on the car, never seen a contraption to do so, but could be wrong...

Yeah, you can get pretty much any disc machined on the car. Usually the workshops that call in a "brake guy" will do it like that....

well there u go, have only seen them machine it when they have removed discs.

so they would only have the on car machining thingy at actual brake workshops, as i have been tojust normal mechs and they have always taken them off.

so why did u wanna know anyways shiftyford?

Castle,
yeah a mate apparently had his rear discs machined at Pedders, and when he took it to his mechanic just for service including brake check they told him they wern't machined at all!
After an arguement with Pedders they told him they couldn't machine them as they couldn't remove the hub etc?Mechanic told him they had to come off the car where Pedders said they could have doen them on the damm car (a bit confusing when they told him they couldn't machine them in the first place!!!)
I'm not sure of the exact details,as i told him try to find a great mechanic and continue to take the car to him instead of going different places with his car!

i use "On the spot" mobile on car brake machiner. Takeing the discs off the car is the cheaper option, there is an advantage with doing them on the car though, if there is any run out in your hub/axle machineing them on the car will help with any peddle pulse.
