I have a L and a R on caliper , so swap them over left on right and vice versa .

And it should become a sticky

Grinded off the hooks to see where the disc sits . It's sitting about 35mm from the uprights . Once machined flat it will so about 45-50mm.
Having a problem with the caliper hitting the hooks . Caliper is 125mm and gap between hooks is 119mm .

It looks like more in the pic but isn't

Once I machine out the hooks the caliper will be able to drop down on the rotor . Once it's machined I'll be able to see what bracket is needed to be made

The measurement in between the hooks Is 120mm. It will have to be machined out to 132mm and 45mm deep to fit the caliper in, machine the hooks flat then use existing holes to mount bracket to caliper .
Now just waiting on time . Which I can't wait lol Quite confident I've got this conversion .

Get the uprights crack tested. This is the point I have been having issues.

What type of testing did you use ? Mag particle , ultrasonic ?

I can see in the pic the RBM is smaller than my au caliper as the back of it fits in between the hooks .
Which bolts are screwed into the upright ? Top or bottom ?
On my bracket the Lower bolts will be screwed into the caliper and the top into the upright .

I can see on yours now the lower right bolt is through the upright and caliper .

You should go check out Alby1's setup (seeing he's local) - from his pics looks like his setup uses an AUII caliper. Probably look exactly like the one below.
I'd think I'd be a good idea to buy a DIY Dyepenetrant kit and check all your machined areas for cracks.
67rce - guessing the prob may lie in your machining method - the aftermarket jobs would've encountered same otherwise I would think.

The ELGT uprights have the upper caliper mounting hole drilled right through the guts of the upright - not sure how that gets by engineering wise, maybe those cast ridges on the underside are deemed enough for strength ??

Is the top pic both el gt uprights ?

Would be a good idea to check out his kit . By the looks of it he's running the AU2 caliper .
Because its all painted I can't see what's machined but if he's running a 330mm rotor he would of definitely had to machine it out so the caliper can drop in

Where can I get one of these crack testing kits .

67rce how deep are the cuts you are taking ?
I've used a mill many times and when u take a deep cut it chatters and the force has to go somewhere hence cracking . Might be a good idea to grind off the hooks then it's less machining and less stress on the upright .

I know if I was machining the hooks I'd be wanting to take 3mm cuts to get the hooks flush .

I'm also going to make new pistons for the calipers out of stainless to replace the bakelite ones .

My machinist has tried between 1.5mm and 3mm cuts. Still having all kinds of issues when magnetic partical crack tested. There has been very fine cracks coming up that are invisible otherwise.

A few photo's they may help. Make sure you use High tensile bolts (Allen key head) from bracket to upright, my engineer said if they were not it would not of passed

Thanks Al I can see what has to be done now . At the bottom where the hook curves up it has been machined flat . Similar looking to a el gt upright

What size Allen key bolts ? 10mm ?
How'd you go with the engineer ? How much ?

I wonder what's wrong with using hex head HT bolts ??
Be aware too that dye penetrant only shows up surface cracks.

The two bigger bolts were 12mm i think but they go in the calliper (bottom one goes through upright, bracket and than calliper) the smaller one was a 10mm i believe but can't be to sure.

Engineer was about $4-500, if you plan on using braided lines you'll need the compliance tag with them, Brakesmart in wollongong do these.
