Well the Manual conversion is complete & car is Awesome very happy
My car is an 1998 ELXR8 series 2 ex chasser ive had her for 10 years got her when she had 39000 ks on her. She now has 274888 ks & motor has never been touched & still pulling hard. Auto was starting to get bad had lost 2nd & 4th (all the punishment at Bathurst over the years) So started looking around for an Auto then decided to go Manual so thats where it all started. Most of the items below were bought new as I found it easier than trying to find second hand parts. T5 out of an EFXR8 with bell housing/clutch fork & clutch cable 2nd hand from Ebay $650.00 TNT gear box from Melbourne to Newcastle $56.00 Flywheel 2nd hand Castelmaine rod shop Melbourne $278.00 Clutch kit New Brakewest Melbourne $300.00 postage $25.00 Flywheel machining & dowles $60.00 Items from Mel Wood Qld Short shifter $275.00 Sandwich plate $75.00 Pedal pin kit $105.00 Flywheel & clutch bolts & Spigot bearing $75.00 Console boot $92.00 floor boot & retainer $45.00 Gear stick $85.00 Gear knob $45.00 Clutch pedal & 2 pads 1 for brake pedal when cut down $105.00 Postage to Newcastle $35.00 Dextron 3 2ltrs $20.00. Total costs $2326. Have also striped gear box & replaced all bearings & seals but dont have costs for them yet. Have not done any electrical work yet removed inhibitor switch from auto & pluged back into loom & cable tied to gear box. Here are a couple of pics of my baby Dave. Attachment: 2nd pic is an old pic..

She is awesome to drive feels like a new car the power difference is so noticable .You put her into another gear punch it & she just launches
Have only been back on the road for a few days & seems to be using less fuel also will be alot easier on brake pads. Dave

well done mate, good effort. its one of the best mods you can do i reckon.
its crazy how the costs blow out, when i did my conversion, i based it all around the fact i could get a whole conversion for $640. ($500 plus freight) I added a new clutch, then new cable, then a nice el gt gear boot and au momo gear knob, etc etc, ended up around the $1250 mark. enjoy being in the unique position of driving the same car in both auto and manual! you'll have a lot more fun now |

One of the best mods I did to my V8 wagon, just changes the way the engine sounds and goes.

I just got a complete t5 conversion for $900 (with everything needed including all the mal woods parts) all I need is a gear boot as I have an EF and the kit came with an ed boot. My question is...........
What exactly did you guys do with the electrics in your conversions????

SO... Will the modded loom for an ED XR8 fit in my EF XR8??

hrmm...
try this one, i think it has in there what needs to be done. all the E series v8s ran a separate trans controller, but i dont know if the EF ecu (eec 5) need to see what the ED ecu (eec 4) needs to see. ecu-fuel-system-eec-f21/5-0-ecu-options-manual-conversion-discussion-t48222.html |

EECV TCMs are a little harder to fool but a J3 chip with a manual bin loaded onto it will do the trick with much less effort.

I have a loom here that is from an EB t5, has the speedo sender plug and two pairs of female plugs, however the V8 t5 i have here only has the speedo plug and a male plug on the left side, what pair of females should i connect up to it? i have a pic i will stick on later, Sorry for taking over the thread slightly! didnt think it was worth creating a whole new thread for that. Cheers
