How much would it cost (at a shop) to have a manual gearbox fitted (just labour, not parts)?

Well my mate who works at a garage said he will do mine for 600...though I am not sure if he said that included a new clutch or just labour.

Though I think some sponsors here do it for 300? correct me if I'm wrong there.

That's assuming, as you said, have EVERY part ready for installation

thats what I am trying to work out, whether it is worth having done or whether to attempt it myself first. If its 300 then I dont think id try it, if 500 I would definitely consider trying it myself

do it yourself...I'm giving it a shot by myself...with the hand of 2 other fm members to help me remove some bits and pieces. But yeah give it a shot...if all goes wrong...ask an fm member to help?

You should be fine doing it yourself, it is hard to get your head around, but its actually not that bad, once you start removing things, you're already halfway done, if you do get stuck, we are all willing to help you out. :D

in update: i ended up paying $150 to have the whole lot fitted, all i had to do was dumy up the wiring, clutch pin, clutch cable, and have all the parts in the boot.

parts were around;
box $500 (from a mate, actually bought his stacked car)
new ef flywheel ~$220
clutch ~$300
pin kit ~80
clutch cable + misc bolts ect ~60>80

i would have done the whole thing myself, but when the auto blew (in a bog way) i had to have it done no stuffing around.

if you are reasonably comfortable with a spanner give it a shot ya self, there is plenty of people on here who have done it. and most of them work for beer and sausages.
so have a bbq and get some people over to help out if need be
