What exactly do you mean by "tunnel out the gearbox"?

cause i heard somone say that a 6 speed mite not fit in xc so like tunnel it out to make more room for it 2 fit like bend or cut the panels so the gearbox fits. do you think you would need to do that?

A T5 will have plenty of room. Why are you thinking about a T56? Must be/is going to be one very nice XC to be thinking of spending that much on a box.

for the price and strength and ease to fit go toploader.

If you upgrade later on to 351 it will handle it.

Just make sure to renew front bearing or have a borg-warner front bearing fitted(larger) as can handle more hp/torque if 351 intended later.
The box needs to be striped to machine housing for the larger bearing.

Also shifter are mostly worn alot and can do with some rebushing and new lockout spring.

Box mounted shifter is best as floor mounted have shift probs due to engine box twist under load.
