a manual conversion is on my list for my NF fairlane v8. I have heard differing methods for fitting a clutch peddle to the car. whats the best way to go about this.

Hey Neal
depends if you buy a complete conversion or if you are buying it bit by bit

Mal woods in QLD do a pin for about $80 which slots into your auto pedal box giving you a mount for yoru clutch pedal (just get a brake pedal from a wrecker), you put the pin in and weld it.
Changing the pedal box is abit of a bastard but after pulling your dash out once youw ill be amazed at how fast you can do it!
See if Darren at FTg has a 5l V8 Conversion kit down there,
Id be able to give you a hand if you like

cheers
Nicko

Nick, the Mall Wood pin is a bolt in job, not a weld in one. For the brake pedal, you can either try to swap it with a manual one, or, wrap something around your pedal area to protect from sparks, and cut the auto pedal down to size with a grinder. The manual brake pedal pad will then fit over the top no probs. Heaps quicker and easier than trying to get the original pedal out.

i agree with nick on the dash thing... do it once... coz then you'l realise its not that hard, and it wont be the daunting 'never done it before' thing that it was for me for so long.

plus- its dead easy compared to ea-eds.

cheers Nick, did you get the pin for your conversion or the orginal ford arrangement? Darren has no stock at the moment, whats the kit worth approx. do you know what electronic mods i would need to do.

I removed the dash on my Fd ltd years ago to do a heater core and swore never to do it again unless necc.

By the way that was my first manual conversion on the old ltd along with 3.5 lsd and efi 4.1, it was a great car and possible the only FD ltd manaul around.

hey Neal, i changed pedalm box, The pin is probably a better option, teh ford pedal boxes are crap and all start to break so you would want to weld it up and strengthen it before putting it in neal.

I dont think you will have too much problems electronic wise as the v8 has a seperate trans controller. We would just need to tear apart your auto connector for neutral switch and reverse switch.
The dash will just always appear in D and id imagine you would need to place a resitor on the TTL (trans Temp Line) to tell teh ecu the gearbox temp is all ok and not to run the thermos constantly

Its not that daunting a job neal, with all teh preperation work its a day at teh most
