Hi all,
I know there are a hundred threads on manual conversions but i would like to hear some peoples thoughts about conversions that they have done. Pros and Cons, Whether they think it was a good idea or whether they wish they had stayed Auto. I have a EL fairmont i have the chance to snag a cheap T5 out of my friends ED that he totaled. Any thoughts, suggestions and stories would be much appriciated. Cheers Scott

It is fun to drive and something less boring when driving around. It just depends if you hate getting on and off the clutch all the time. I sometimes hate driving in peak hour since I go through it everyday, but I would still stick to a manual over an auto. When it comes to doing the conversion, it is a tedious task to do for the first time but well worth it in my opinion. Should take maybe a weekend if you have all the parts and tools. Also be prepared for cursing, kicking and screaming to get it all done as well as bruises, scratches and lacerations. Once it is all done and the car starts, you'll be quiet satisfied . Only con about manual is peak hour traffic driving and sometimes uphill reversing if you ever have to do that. Besides those, it is fun to drive as well as something else to do. Do it...you know you want to phong =P~

Its accidents and thefts that make the world go round.
Everything revolves around it, In fact, having negligence makes things cheaper! I guess the only regret you'll have is traffic. If your partner cant drive manual, upgrade that too.

Only advice i can give is get the box rebuilt first, use a quality HD clutch that isnt tooo heavy and use new clutch cable. Also get the pedalbox reinforced, along with the firewall at the cable hole.
Doing this will save alot of headaches in the future and you wont have to go back to things twice when it couldve been done properly the first time |

how much does it cost for a rebuild? theres a company who specialize in bearings for gearboxes but i forget the name, but it wouldnt cost very much in parts, the labour in pulling everything apart would be the killer. Mal Wool charge 1500 plus changeover for a rebuilt T5 which is fairly steep. |

Best thing I ever did to my old EA 3 speed was convert to manual. I could not recommend it enough.
Auto Falcons are just s**t in my opinion. Sooo boring to drive. |
