Hey I have had Redline Shockproof Lightweight gearbox oil in my EL T5 with 200K on it for a month now.

Shift feel has improved a little, not Oh my god but deffinately better, although it is still heavy and notchy like it always was. -If anyone disagrees with me try shifting any Jap car and you will know what I mean.

Shift speed has improved alot. It goes in easier when you shift fast and no crunching or whineing.

Much quiter. From this I will assume that the wear is also alot less.

Cost $35 per liter. But it's suppost to last 400,000 K's mine might not get to 600000 but if I had a new car I would replace it ASAP to get maximum life and benefit.

Overall worth it.

G'day

I just put dexron3 and 296 synthetic additive in my ed xr6 box and the improvement is great. The oil that came out of the box was nearly like enamel paint, fiarly black.

Cheers

A lot of people use Castrol Transmax Z in their T5's, but I cant remember if you need to put an additive in it called 'lubrizoil' or not. Anyone remember?

IIRC transmax Z is just a glorified form of ATFIII, so yes, add lubrizoil

I'm probably going to go back to an 80w-90 gear oil instead of ATF. Unless anyone has suggestions?

You can get the lubrizol from autobarn.

I wouldn't recommend using standard gearoil in the T5. I did this before I found out they needed ATF and found it very hard in engage 1st & 2nd gears when cold. The Syncro's were also very noisey with the gear oil. Definitely use ATF, either TransmaxZ or the redline stuff!

the reason borg-warner switched from specifying gear oil to dex 3 with lubrizol is because the gear oil was slowing the synchros down too much

I recently drained my box and replaced the oil with Amsoil Synthetic ATF. This stuff doesn't need the Lubzoil additive. My gear shifts have improved heaps, especially highspeed 2-3 shifts. With the old oil I could never get 3 gear in a hurry when on the strip, now it glides in.
