well i had very good luck today, went to oxely wreckers in brisbane and found a s2 au xr6, sitting there, so im looking and i go. omfg, its a manual, my car is a seres 1 au forte
i thought this would be the only chance i get to score a manual box, so im going there monday to find out how much they want just gonna get the box, that way i will store it, and when i move to melbourne i can aqquire the rest of the parts for it, question time, will s2 manual ecu work with s1 auto wiring, will i need to pull all auto wiring and replace it with manual wiring can i just get my auto manual ecu flashed to accept the manual box, how much should i be paying. for the box and bellhousing, other parts i will aquire in melbourne later any thing else i need to no let me no cheers

no the looms and ecu will not work properly between s1 and s2, as Ive found out the hard way.
I have an s2 that I put an s1 manual in, with s1 loom and ecu. the MAP sensor, TPS sensor and coil pack plugs are all different, as series 1 uses EF gear in those locations. The pinouts are different, and by my reconing something in the voltages is different too, because the s1 ecu does not like the signal its getting from the s2 MAP sensor. will only run smooth in open loop (or wot). closed loop, light throttle and it chugs harder than someone who has just left the AA program. ford could not fix this (useless westpoint ford). Im actually on the lookout for s2 loom, can you ask him what it will cost as well? ill pay him direct debit if I have to. I live 30 mins outside of melb, so if you ever want to see the car let me know, and ill recount the stories of the epic disaster that putting an s1 trans and gear into an s2 was. would be forever in your debt if you could ask, as Im having a devil of a time finding an s2 manual engine loom. I spent $1100 bucks at ford to have them give me back a 90% running car. you can flash the auto ecu into a manual one, easy as. If you get the ecu, it wont run straight up, as it needs to be coded to your ignition. and auto elec with scantool can manage this in short order. however it might be easier and cheaper in the long run to get the auto ecu flashed, geting more power with a tune at the same time If you have an s1, make sure if its smartlock or smartshield, could save you a lot of headaches. all s2 s3 were smartshield.

Let me know how much you want for the s2 loom if your car isnt smartsheild.

no probs mate.
good luck getting it all together, theres a few of us here who all made the same C**k up with s1-s2 gear all at the same time. I wish I knew then what I know now. you shouldnt need any resistor tricks, you just splice the reverse light plugs onto the right wires, and then have the ecu flashed into a manual one. it wont be asking for any signal from the auto parts of the loom then, as they shut down that area of the ecu as far as I understand it. easy peasy. whatever you do dont try and splice the two looms together. it will only end in tears lol.
