Hey guys got a slight problem with my auto in my LTD 5L. It drives fairly well when it is in D considering it's age 210,000klms, but when selecting gears manually it either A) Won't select them (more so when it's cold) or B) If it does select them it will go down and up gears when when I select them but sometimes it will just fall back into D. Not to sure what it might be, inhibitor switch? buggered auto? any help would be appreciated.

the btr will still change gears when you select a gear.
1 give your first only 2 give you first and 2nd 3 gives your first/second and third still changing by itself. check fluid level also

Yer I realise that but when I put it in 1 sometimes it will give me one sometimes it won't and it's the same for 2 and 3. On the off chance it does select a gear when I hold the shifter in 1,2 or 3 it usually slips out of gear. It will occasionally operate perfect but not often.

Maybe it's just an adjustment problem. The T-bar controls a horizontal link that connects to a lever on the gearbox. Where these connect adjustment can be made.
I find that placing the T-bar in Park and getting under the car and loosening the nut on the adjuster and making it happy then re-tightening works fine. My manual says to make the adjustment in Drive, but the problem with this is when you loosen the nut the T-bar can drop into 3rd.

definately needs a new filter and fluid. they wont select gears when fluid is low or hot. low fluid gets hotter faster.
get a service done, you wont know how much it perks it up.

Change the gear position switch on the left side of the gear box. They get old and display the symptoms you are describing. It is held on with two 8mm bolts and has two wiring looms plugged into it.

I think you may be on the money BenJ. Gearbox was serviced less than 5,000k's ago when motor and box were out and engine was being rebuilt. Gearbox was doin this before it was pulled out, should have fixed it then but I just thought it was a servicing and or old fluid issue.
