Im currently in the process of getting the ute back on the road and one thing I noticed when I bought it was a massive vibration around 90kph. First up I checked the obvious, balance the wheels and found a buckled one. Thinking this was it I replaced the wheels and it helped a little but not much. Now I have the gearbox on the ground, it appears it been worked on before and the seals and bushes look new! So heres the next brainwave.
When the previous owner has removed the tailshaft to do the gearbox, he may of refitted the shaft in a different position then what it should have been, would this be the vibration Im getting??? Is it possible to misalign them??? Cheers, Justin

It shouldn't matter which way the tailshaft is bolted in.
How does the tailshaft look? Not missing any weights? Not bent? Are the uni's in good condition? Should be slightly stiff and move smoothely. If you have found a buckled wheel, are you sure the axle isn't bent too? I would be putting the diff on stands. Block the front wheels to prevent the car from moving. Start the car, foot on the brake, manual gearbox put it in first, Auto gearbox put it in first (not D gearbox will up-shift through gears as the rear wheels increase in speed causing rear wheels to spin faster and faster, Make sure it's in 1st) Ease off the brake slowly allowing the rear tires to rotate and slowly bring up to speed. (just with the engine idling don't punch the throttle, probably make car slip off the stands) Now hop out and check your back tires are spinning true. Hope back into the car and push the clutch in and wait for the tires to stop OR apply the brakes slowly and stop the rear wheels. (Don't jump on the brakes, this will shock the driveline and can cause damage)
