Why???

Just get an LSD, unless you like going in a straight line only...

I had a mate that bought one and got rid of it within 3 months after he had to replace his tyres.

With a name like driftomatic, i'd be scared to have you on the roads at all.
You're probably still on your P plates.

Also, didn't you just crash your car???

Learn to drive, then change your diff.

Easy up fellas. Yobbo swears by spools whether mini or full as they are allways predictable, unlike S/H LSD's of the mechanical veriety which Ford use that over time do wear out. In reality a spool is a far cry from a std run of the mill family car that the falcon range was designed as. This in mind when is a cammed, loud exhaust, lowered mags and a big stereo'd falcon a family car, so to down some one cause they want this mod is a little over the top just as it would be to belittle some one regarding a certain cam/ head setup.

In my oppinion mate, do what you like. As with any mod you will learn to drive the car accordinly and if you crash it, then thats your f**k problem.

you'll be hard pressed to find a cam/head mod combo that will be as illegal and dangerous as a spool/minispool

Mini spools are great fun for strapping around the streets if you love going sideways, doing fishies & and hellis. Just take it easy driving around in the wet and be prepared for it to step out sideways un expectedly. LSD's are crap for hellis as when it hooks around hard they usually start to spin one wheel, and if it doesnt happen straight away its only a matter of time. After a while the LSD's become unpredictable and a dissapointment when they start to spin one wheel only after a couple of weeks of really flogging them. Keep in mind with the spool that you will eventually snap an axle unless you keep cheese cutters on it and never have anyone in the back.

As for ratio's provided you have a V8 housing:2.53,3.08,3.45,3.73,3.89,4.11,5.13

Some of those will fit a 6 housing aswell. Check with MotoSpecs.

I dont know where you can get a spool from down there, but fitting is easy, you just pull all the gears out and put the mini spool on there place.

Then get an account at a tyre shop started

A mate of mine had a rachet diff. = Locked solid in a straight line or wheelspin and unlocks around corners. Put some fearsome shunts through the driveline though.

What about an air locker diff like on 4WD's? Then you can lock it for the strip and unlock it for the street -if that's your thing. Has anyone tried this?

That's something i've thought about.. but I'd imagine the cost isnt anything like the $90 for a mini spool.

I thought the detroit locker was only a few hundred?

Minispool would be great. I would love one as it seems to make an ultimate hoon mobile. But then its unsafe, and insurance would not like it one bit.

Pretty much locks your diff the whole time you drive so even around corners rear wheels turn at the same rate. When you've got one and your turning corners, the inside wheel usually skips along the road, causes a fair bit of wear after much cornering.
