after blowing the 2nd LSD in the EB i decided to put a minispool in.. i was considering a Detroit locker but there isnt one available for the Borg Warner diffs...and ARB airlockers were like 2grand.....i was just spose to get the LSD fixed but it was cheaper just to get a new centre, but the shop didnt hav one in stock...so theres a minispool in there now....if i dont want it theyll rip it out & put a new centre in for me...but for now ill drive it & see how it goes...its soooo not as bad as i thought it would be....although parking seems to be a bit of a mission....let us know wat u guys think..

As you said parking is a bit of mission until you get used to it. Minispools aren't all that bad to drive with - at least you know that the power is at both wheels all the time. (Much more predictable).
The only negatives about spools are the fact that they are illegal, and that you chew out tyres extremely fast. I had a spool in my LTD and I was geting around 8000 kms out of a set of rears. At least it seemed to fix the breaking 9" diff problem though. |

tyre life isnt really an issue.... my last rear tyres lasted me 5 months...i reckon they will wear out quicker... but not from the inner tyre skipping on corners, but from dropping nuts everywhere....

That I guess was making my tyres wear a little faster also, but just from excessive wheelspin on takeoff when dragging, no donuts. Loved the fact that you could make the rear step out sideways when ever you wanted though.

They are not that bad in the wet, you just have to be a little lighter on the throttle around corners. In a straight line they give you more grip so I used to push it harder, but when it breaks traction be careful the rear will step out every time.

sorry people..the spools been taken out & replaced with a brand new LSD.....oh well i was gettin used to havin a locked diff...maybe its for the better - i did hav my doubts initially.....ill just have to cut down on the burnouts...

You can get Richmond Lokkers for the BW diff, about $500....

well i originally was only spose to have it temporarilly, but i was gettin used to the idea of the minispool..then i took it back to the shop coz the pin holding the spool in wasnt tight, and while it was there they put a new LSD in ( which was originally spose to happen in the first place)
Hey XRated...do the Richmond lockers work on the same principle as the detroits...u got any info on them?? |
