for whiteline controls (read low) springs have a look in my user gallery. they are a bit lower than kings, but you can still easily clear almost everything that you ccan normally.

its all just a matter of being careful.

whitelines with the matching shocks give a pretty darn smooth ride considering what they are, and still handle like a dream.

i cant comment on kings though, as i've never been in a falcon with them

Well I am getting Koni yellows, so with Whitelines it may indeed be a great ride :D.

Was told by the suspension place (who has a lot of experience in E-series suspension for both on the streets and track) that the King Springs super lows aren't good on the roads and if I was going to go with super lows he would have recommended Whiteline springs. Though since I am only going for XR height, he said Whiteline sits lower and has the same ride feel as the King Spring lows.

He seems very professional so I'll see how it goes after the job is done at the end of the month :D.

Ok update is, I've paid the $600.00 and have had Midas put in Monroe Gas shocks all around. And a wheel alignment.

The car now feels solid and weighty, 60% of the body roll has gone. The car sits flat and it feels like I'm driving around with sticky tires. Feels nice.
I'm happy.

Now that all the transfered tire noise has gone from the front shocks, what I sometime get now over sharp bumps is a bit of rack noise, especially deep train lines.

What is the best way to approach the rack, first thing to look at to try and quieten it down a bit?

thats pretty f**k up atitude to take.

what if that was cost of having a safe car to drive. what if you didn't spend the money and it caused you to crash and kill some one.

and don't say you'd just buy a newer car, some people can't afford to buy a newer car, but could afford to fix the one they have.

it never stops to amaze me, the atitude people have towards some thing they HAVE to use everyday, risk there life every time they get a the car, 'just because they can't justify the money to fix it'

Hi all. I had a camber/caster kit fitted to my Au for $250 and this included most of the bushes for the sterring system and a wheel alingment. Go to a smaller workshop instead of big names.

A lot of money isn't it. I was under the impression that if you
didn't have lowered suspension, and you have stock rims that you didn't
need a Caster/Camber kit.

Is all this really needed?

Pretty crazy, my brother took his AU to pedders in Sydney, didn't charge him for the safety inspection and basically got the exact same quote...

The way to look at it I think, is along the lines of this.... Maybe the car isn't worth spending that much money on, but your safety IS worth spending that money on. If you say that you can buy another car for that amount of money, yes you can, you can buy another car with similar kms, that will need a similar amount of work, and your no better off at all!

Why don't people realize that even tho car's depreciate in value for a long period of time before they might start to go back up, you need to invest in them. Most of us use them to get to work to earn our income, transport our families around & we need to do that safely. To do that safely requires you to spend money on your car, like it or not. It's an investment in your safety & if you drive to get to work, and investment you make so you can earn more money.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

Comical to say the least

its probly a generic quote they give out to people that ask for a quick check and seem like they dont know anything about car to rope in some easy money.

You also have to take into account the Pedders dealer you take it to as well. I had the list above done plus the new rear end springs/bushes/shocks, a new rack and the power steering pump overhauled(including the hi and lo pressure lines and switch) for $2065 at Pedders in Toowoomba. While it cost more than what the car was economically worth, I have peace of mind in that the suspension and steering is top notch.

However.....

I had the exhaust upgraded to a Hi-tec headers setup with 3 inch after the new cats($1100 if you are interested in the price)but while I was waiting for it to be done, the fitter came in and dragged me under the car to show me something. Pedders had forgotten to tighten up the lower control arm bolts and when he showed me they were finger tight!!!! Suffice to say Pedders were most embarrassed and re-did the whole underside for nothing(in that they replaced the lower arms and the bolts, new front shocks and new lower balls due to the slack causing the whole lot to move around...).

This was at no cost to me as they stuffed up and the wear warranted these items replaced. They also gave me another 12 months warranty on top of the 12 I already had so 24 months warranty nothing to sneeze at. Scary when you think about it as I drove 1000km with these bolts only finger tight and the nyloc nuts had only grabbed half a thread each - if one or both would have come loose....would probably have met my maker.

Advice is shop around and dont settle on the first quote. Pedders actually beat the other three quotes here in Toowoomba so I went with them - just soured by their lack of attention to detail which nearly cost my life!

Happy shopping!!

so moral of the story is your car has been running on the same bushes for 15 years fine,
go spend more than the car is worth to replace them and almost get killed by some apprentices lack of care and decided to go to lunch before tightening up some bolts

i had my car lowered at pedders, they did the safety check at the same time and came up with a heap of things. I took my car to my mechanic and they fixed everything that needed to be done with using pedders parts and was still cheaper. Also one of my shocks were stuffed only after 6 or so months of having them in. 2 years after lowering the car going over bumps it sounds like s##t so i would strongly suggest to stay away from pedders. I regret getthpng my car lowered by them now

To an extent - car is 21 years old and the bushes were chewed out all over the car therefore was ECONOMICAL for me to replace. As has been stated in the thread, your choice to get work done is a personal incentive and not based on the influences of others as to what a car is worth economically and the passion of driving a car you like driving. My choice was to get it done to improve the rattles/squeaks/groans in my driveline/suspension for my enjoyment and safety, not for that of others.

The bushes were shagged after years of oil and grime wearing them out. If you think a 22 year old car rides fine on old original bushes, think again  . The improvement was significant and I enjoy the car even more now the work is done. Besides, cleaning the drip tray every week from catching the entire contents of my steering pump is reason enough for getting the work done, as well as no longer scraping over pieces of gravel on the road due to the previous owner lowering it to the centre of the earth.

Again the moral is shop around and don't settle on the first quote(or only quote in some of the instances in this thread...) and pit workshop against workshop to deliver you, the operator/owner, the best deal/bang for buck.

The idiot who didnt tighten the lower arm bolts was actually the supervisor - he no longer works there...thank christ!!

+1

I can't imagine charging that much at our workshop for suspension parts, even with a list like that.

The fitting/labour costs will knock you for six, no matter where you go.

The bloke I bought my extractors off said the same thing, he had an EL lowered by pedders and said "I don't recommend Pedders." Not my experience but there ya go.

I was quoted $300-$350 for work at Pedders, and got a bill for nearly $1000.
Spoke to a legal mate and he said it was their word against mine, a lost cause, and especially when they said the receptionist heard the guy quote that amount - yet she was in the office, and we were stood outside, no-where near the lying b***h!
Rule 1: get a written quote
Rule2: shop around
Btw, the work is fine, just did not like the lying. Also, I got work done by a Pedders in Adelaide, and they were fine; quote and work done as suggested.
If I was not worried about legality, I'll tell you what place it came from.

Nothing wrong with naming and shaming. They are a public business and the public can give an opinion of their services, or lack of. There are no legalities regarding naming and shaming unless you are currently in a law suit with them.

I tell my mates of bad places to never to go to, may it be mechanics or a coffee shop for lack of services. My opinion and my review...they can't sue for that.
