Hey all,
I've got a 99 AU Forte wagon (no abs, or lsd etc), and when in for service was told the diff needs 'service' and its leaking slightly. He didn't do it that day as he needs it for longer than he had time for to do it. Should I assume its gunna be costly? Or is it likely to be a simple gasket repair..... Having done 230,000k's, is a 'service' worth it, and should I get a reco'd one just put in or what - and what are my options (and rough costs) to do so. Its all stock, not likely to be wanting high performance mods or anything. I don't think its playing up when driving, although I do tend to loose traction on a steep hill I regularly start up on (damn client has to live on a steep hill doesn't he), but that could be my s**t tyres (but then again the backs aren't actually too bad) Thanks guys. |

..if its leaking, its probably the gasket, or the bolts holding the back plate on have come loose (doubtfully).. a service on a diff is easy if all that you change is the oil, and the gasket. Just do it yourself. buy a gasket and some good oil (LSD or non LSD), remove the bolts are the back plate, after draining the oil ofcourse, scrape off the gasket, clean contact areas, apply new gasket, bolt back up, and fill up with new oil. Done.
Cheers
