G'day

Who currently runs a set of nankang ns11 17" tyres?

I've got a set on my anz mayhems and the tyre factory cant seem to get them to balance!
At 100k's the front just shakes like a b**ch. I have had this problem for some time but i put it down to worn tie rod ends and ball joints. Having removed all the suspension last weekend and replaceing every bush i thought that it would cure it. I took the wheels to the tyre factory to get them balanced. They balanced them up, i watched them do it, they come up perfect. Off i go down the eastern freeway and problem still there.

So little old me is cracking the poo's, i think its the tyres!

What do you guys recon.

Cheers

if it were tyres the problem would show on the balancer. u sure its not rear tyres? or a worn/bent stub or hub?

Using NS2 Nankangs for ages, never a problem. I'm due for a new set soon, will get them again.

If they balanced properly, it's not the tyres/rims. Something else is at fault.

yup agreed - I have em on (all four) and they are the best tyres I have ever used. You have something else wrong with your car!!!

For a cheap tyre I wasn't expecting much but they are great I'm going to be putting a set on the ED when I get the spare cash, there even good at the strip too :)

Have you looked at your tail shaft could be that I had the same prob when I brought the ED, the tailshaft was out of balance.

Also, what rims are you running. If you are using spacers(not hub adapters) for the rims this can also be a problem as the spacers need to be central to the hub. Yobbo had a similar problem with his car with spacers

Looks like the verdict is in. Nankang = OK.

Oh as for track use, I know of a heavily worked LS1 Caprice that runs high 12's using Nankang NS2's. Turns that into low 12's with semi-slicks.

G'day

It cant be the suspension in the front end, it just all be replaced on grand final weekend. I thought that it was the front end, tie rods or ball joints but there all new.
I'm not running spacers, their on anz mayhems.

The tyre factory reckons that they balance up perfect. The wheels arn't buckled.

The tail shaft was balanced less than 2 months ago.

I spoke to a guy on the side of the road this morning who had the same wheels and tyres. He has the same problem on his el. Hes been back to the tyre factory and found exactly the same thing. The balance up fine but then at 100 they vibrate.
He put a set of worn out falkens on and the problem wasn't there.

This backs up my theory that it just the tyres. i bought these tyres in january last year and so did he. Maybe its just that batch of tyres! i dont know.

I'm going back to the tyre factory 2moro so i'll see how i go.

Cheers

Could be that the tyres are not round. Sounds crazy I know, but it happens.

If they're out of round, they'll balance up ok on the machine, but that can't simulate what's happening when there's load on the tyre @ a higher speed.

Only way to check if they're out of round is to spin them up on the balancing machine without the guard on and watch the tyre.
