Hey Guys

My 4speed auto transmission has been doing funny things latley.

after driving for a random period of time it will often (more often than not)
seem to only function in 3rd gear. (ie taking off really slowly and sitting at 3rd gear revs when cruising) i think this is called limp home mode.

it also sometimes seems to skip up and down gears rapidly and nonsensically ie when at constant speed or gently slowing down.

Any ideas what this could be? im hoping its something cheap. my dad reckons the bands might need adjusting ... but he knows nothing.

So what do you smart guys who have probably seen this post 100 times rekon???

Thanks Verry much to anyone who replies

Cheers
Ben

That sounds more like solenoids playing up...but i couldnt say which 1.

band adjustment would be when slipping.

How long since the tranny has been serviced??
I think it's recommended about every 50,000 km or
so for older units.

i suggest servicing the auto box at a good auto place and use some nice good oil..

another thing check ya oil check the colour of it and check how much ou got... it even just need a tiny bit of oil...

is it going 1,2,3,4 when cold (or just been started and driven) if that is the case every thing is fine and ya oil might be s**t making the box hotter then normal and kicking into limp mode.

The funny thing is when its doing its LHM. if i put up at a traffic light, turn the ignition off and then on again, this fixes the problem.... temporarily of course.

This leads me to believe it could be something electrical.

Is there anything i can check. ie a switch, coroded plug ect ect that could be causeing it to want to go into LHM or change gears for no reason.

Thanks Guys

Ben

Edit: this solinoid mentioned above ^^^ where is it/ what am i looking for
