Next question if the complete diff is not exchangible, can i use the nc 3.23 lsd gears in the stock 3.08 diff housing ? Once again i was told no worries mate she be right......... If some who who is clude up with this could point me in the right directiont hat would be great. Thanks for your time Shane |

the handbrake setups are different in the nc/ef , upper control arms may be different lengths too but can possibly be swapped over, someone will let u know for sure
to swap the centres will cost a bit of cash to setup too, specialist job, around $300 - $800 depending if they require any new parts, bearings, seal, clutch cones etc |

While it is easy enough to pull the axles and use the EF/EL backing plates, rotors and handbrake and swap them onto the NC housing, you would also need to cut the handbrake cable brackets off the EF/EL diff and weld them on to the NC diff housing.
If you have ABS you can use your EF/EL axles in the NC diff as the splines should be the same. I have done this brake swap on my EB Wagon diff so it is possible. You just need someone who is willing to do the welding. As for the upper and lower control arms, they should be the same between an NC and an EF. In reality, it would be much simpler to find a diff from and XR EF/EL. Cheers BenJ

Cheers BenJ in reality the ef el lsd complete diffs are not the easest to find around here the ones i can find are over priced and most are free wheeling, its cheaper to look for borg warner lsd out of holdlens and fairlanes. so let me refraise the question, dose any one know is 3.23 centers will work with the stock 3.08 case, ive heard some dont... |

Correct, that is my understanding as well.
The 3.08 housing is smaller and won't accept a centre from a 3.23, 3.27 or 3.45 etc. BenJ

going from the gegory,s ef only manual
auto sedan 3.08:1 other 3.23:1 all xr6 3.45:1 crownwheel diamiter 3.08:1 183.8 mm 3.23:1 and 3.45:1 189.9 mm surely they would not use difrent diff housing from auto to manual ? you wouldnt think ford wouldnt use difrent housings in the ef gli, futura, fairlane, farimont xr6 and xr8..... if your diff can hold a 3.23 then it can hold a 3.45, ive read some ef autos have a 3.23, but the more i read and reasurch the more of a head truck this is lols. if i cant find any soild info i just get a lsd diff and parts give them all to a diff guy and say give me back some thing good, then he most likly will ask for 2 weeks wages lols |

i spoke to a few diff specialist and was told any diff ratio will fit the housing apart from 2.77 the stock ef/ef housing will take 3.08, 3.23, 3.45, 3.79 4.11 so i ended up just buying a el xr6 4 pinion lsd centre with 3.45 gears so im swaping the stock peg-leg 3.08 diff with xr6 3.45 diff, if i use the police cluster and dail in the speedo will my auto,s shift points still be out ?

u will need to change the speedo gear on the speedo sender unit, u will need a black one? about $12+ from your local trans place or fords
are u swapping the just centres or complete diffs, coz with complete diff u will need the matching el top control arms |

Good luck if you are doing it yourself. I know of a few that have had a go, and six months later have had to get it rebuilt properly.
While I have attempted a lot of things, DIY diff rebuild was one thing I just don't have the specialised equipment to do correctly. My advice is, spend the money and get it done by the pros. Cheers BenJ

also with your wanted diff tag question on aff, the 3.45 tag u want is actually a sticker that goes on the rh axle tube, the filler plug has a tag, reads- high performance

Ratio is on a sticker. Metal tag tells you if its limited slip. 'high performance' tagged diffs arent LSD, they just have a 4 pinion centre. |
