Hey i've just installed a LSD in my car and now when driving around there is a vibration running through the car. It seems to be the faster i go the more it vibrates, especially when back off the throttle.

Just need some help as to what the problem could be?

Sounds like an out of balance tail shaft - could be how the tailshaft is connected to the diff. Try and rotate 90 degrees, see if that fixes it.

The diff seems like it leans forward alot to, with the mounting brackets on top does it have to be in the front hole or the back one?

is the car excessively lowered? maybe try the other hole, and see how that goes.

Its only got King Super Lows in it but yeah i will try the other holes and try rotating the tailshaft to. Thanks for your help

yeah did you mark the uni joints on the tailshaft when you took it off?sounds like that is definatly your problem

Well one of my mates did most of the work for me because i've never done it before but i dont think he marked anything

yeah theres noting to mark anyway when replacing the rear axle. The part you mark gets replaced anyway.

Just try and rotate it the 90 degree, and see how you go.

What car did the diff come from?

Your profile says EL Futura. Either the diff is from an EF - possible - or its an EL diff and the arms were installed in the wrong holes - the XR mount points rather than the standard mount points - which are the front holes, half way up the bracket. The rear most holes are for the XR arms, and the uppermost hole is not used.

If hes put the standard arms in the XR holes, this will tilt the diff forward heaps.

did you replace the whole diff or just the hemisphere?


if the whole diff, whats its history? what/where did the old diff come from?

At worst. the diff could be bent.

If all original arms have been installed and the live axle has only been replaced, nothing should need adjusting.

are all brakes clear and not grabbing?

The diff is from a EL XR6. So that means we should've used the front holes not the back ones? I'm hoping thats all it is because thats an easy fix. Will try it in the morning. Thanks

I think everyone missed the clues about the diff being tilted far forward. :wink:

And I guessed it was from an XR, as the captive nut would be pushed in the rear most hole, and the paint would be marked from the bolt head. Your mate would have just assumed it was the right hole.

But since you still have the standard upper arms, the nut needs to be pushed upwards to the middle/front hole and the arm installed there.

Unless you want to get some EL XR arms to install to keep the diff vibration free... Which I seem to have a set of for sale. 8-)
