{DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} {DESCRIPTION} Okay, taking out my old springs and shocks in the rear, and got the first one out alright, then got to the second one. Undid the bottom shockie mounting bolt, trailing arms loosened, and then as you presume the shockie will slowly fall down... and nothing, went to grab it to loosen it up, and realised it was stuck. As you can see i've given it a couple wacks with screw driver / crow bar.... and nothing. If you notice it's kind of turned a little bit and got stuck, and the strut is leaning a bit to the left. Anyone have any idea whats happened? Or how to fix this problem easily? This shockie is a monroe shockie, where as the other one was just a stock one, so i presume this means that someone has had a crack at it... not sure if it was from them though. |

I would using a drift and a big hammer, hit the side that is sticking out and try to rotate the shocker around to the position it should be in.

It is never going to come out if the nut at the top behind the rear seat isnt removed.
If you cant get it undone by holding the top of the shock shaft with a set of vice grips or similar and undoing the nut , you will have to either get a nut slitter or an angle grinder cut it off. Replacememt shock time then.

Hmmm... Either way though, shouldn't the shock still just kind of ease down slowly? The other shock i did i undid the bottom mounting bolt and then the top and it came out fine. I don't see how using the spring compressors will help though?
Hopefully i can get it sorted... although probably shouldn't of drank as much as I did last night |

If this doesn't work, what would be the next option? I don't mind cutting the shock (if thats safe) just hope theres a shop open that stocks replacement shocks... Cheers I'll let you know how i go with getting the tension off the parts. |

so your trying to get the shock out? to change springs? that top bolt has to come out. or if you are re-using the shocks just undo the 4 bolts holding the shock "tower" to the car. they are inside the car too

Did you put the vice grips on the threaded part of the shaft and damage the thread, and now the nut wont come off?

All good! Took off the top plate and that loosened it a bit, gave it some friendly smacks with the hammer and she came out.
Got lovell ultra-lows in the rear... although now at certain times when idling, the exhaust seems to be rattling on something? Anyone heard of this? Cheers PS. gotta love cars... |
