I have a BA XR6 5 speed manual and the clutch needs replacing. I have got a few quotes and just for the clutch alone is between 1000 and 1500. I don't really have this much to spend and decided to have a look around and I found this. Do you think this will do the job, or do you have any suggestions. I work as a pizza boy and do give the clutch a bit of a hard time, but nothing too stupid, so it does get used a fair bit.

The thing is that just throwing a clutch in it, isn't just what you've got to do.....you've got to R&R the flywheel for machining.....fitting a new clutch kit to an non-resurfaced flywheel will void warranty on the new clutch. Then you need to apply the correct torque to the flywheel bolts, just bangin them up with a rattle gun can warp the rear of the crankshaft and cause an oil leak......or not torquing them tight enough, and you risk it coming loose. Applying the right type of lube, and the right amount to the input shaft spline is crittical for smooth operation and long life. Fitting and bleeding of the new throw-out bearing assembly is crittical too. I'm not trying to scare you, but make you aware that it isn't an easy job for the uninitiated.....and having a workshop manual will help....a lot.....as well as a torque wrench.

Yea, I had a read of a workshop manual and saw that it would be too hard to do without a hoist, I have access to all the other tools, but no hoist. So I was going to buy a clutch and give it to a mechanic to do the install as I am happy paying that, but I thought $1000 for an after market clutch was a bit much. So do you think this is a good option, or do you have any other suggestions? |

Australia is the land of the rip-off.
I priced a genuine Ford clutch kit for a 2003 BA XR8 260 Boss engine,( doesn't come with a throw-out bearing assembly )and it was about $1,500, and a furhter $700 for the bearing. The Ford part number is a USA Ford one, so had a look at some Ford dealers in the US....and hello...$268 USD for the exact same thing.....and even if it cost $200 to get it here, your still in front. Unfortunately, those dealers didn't want to deal outside of USA, so a $365 hi-performance clutch from Summit Racing was gotten.....and found a throw-out bearing assembly for a mere $28 USD, and it had the exact Ford part number cast in it, and it was listed as being for a Chevy 3500HD truck. Anyway, it pays to shop around.....the choice is yours.

The clutch kit I found has a Concentric Slave Cylinder. That wouldn't happen to be the part you're talking about?
I also had another look at the workshop manual ad found what you are talking about, but the seller doesn't have an image of the actual kit, just the box. I suppose that i could ask him for a pic to be sure. |

cool. I got a bit worried there for a second that I was missing a part.
The kit I am looking at buying is from clutch pro. Have you here about them, if they are good or bad? |

Never heard of them......I have only used PBR clutches.....so I can't say whether they are good or not.

We sometimes get clutch pro kits when we order from PBR. I think they are one in the same. Bluepoint snap-on sorta relationship.
