The steering on my ELxr has a knock noise while turning left to right checking for wear....The steer uni's appeared very good so i removed the rack and stripped it and re greased and adjusted the steer shaft spring loaded keeper which was loose so the slide was floating....Put it all back in but it's stilll doin it....Should i replace the steer shaft and slide or just get a rebuilt rack?? Do they replace these in a rebuild???

Are you sure? I just spoke to Bursons today and they quoted $320 for a rebuilt rack which 'apparently' gets the shaft and slide replaced......The car will be going for a RWC and VIV soon so i don't won't it to fail......MY EF Mont does'nt do it sooo??? The rest of the rack is fine it's just the shaft and slide is worn......Might see if i can just get those and replace them only???

Hmmm interesting! Cos the XR is just stock xr suspension and height as far as i can tell.....So even a rebuild still did it? Some places prob don't even replace the shaft and slide then it seems.....Hmmmm??? ANy other experienced opinions???

The difference is between reconditioned (where they replace what is beleived to be worn) and Remanufactured (where the only part that is reused, if it meets specs, is the housing itself.
