hey guys i just got new springs, king super low all round and the guy at bridgestone said that because of the camber on the front wheels that there will be tire wear evident in approx 5000 km. he said to bring it back in a couple of weeks to put on the camber however i have only travelled about 260 ks in 4 days and one tired has lost most of the very inside tread.
need help would the springs have done this in this short amount of time or is there something else. wheel alignment was done as far as i know. it pulls to the left which is weired because it should pull to the right because that is the buggered tyre!!! |

they also mentioned something about the ball joints being buggered but they failed to mention that when they were doing the bloody springs

super lows need a camber kit in them or this happens. if the springs have gone on and you've gone that far and have s**t steering, well um would it not be obvious that its the problem?
think of it this way, if the kit doesn't go in you'll be in there once a month for new front tyres

I seriously doubt the wheel alignment was done properly if it needs a camber kit. What, they actually charged you to do the alignment when they knew it wasnt gonna happen?! |

they told me the wear was only gonna be evident after 5000km not 200!!! i just wondered if anyone had the same problem ive only had the springs in 4 days and i knew it needed a camber kit just didnt think i would need it this quick

your alignment is out. the cord between the alignment heads was probably hooked on your stone guard thus giving an incorrect reading.
take it back ASAP.

same problem, drove car after susp fitted (had a camber kit) bout 3 days later i had very noticable inner front tyre wear.
the fix was to jam all the shims they could get into the camber kit. the thing has the max ammount of shims itll take in it now, and still has mass camber. |

so you guys think that it is the wheel alignment and not because it doesnt have the camber kit? would the ball joints cause any tyre wear or movement

It seems to me that the wheel alignment was not done
correctly in the first place, even without the kit. (With that sort of wear the tyre must have been squealing even in a straight line ??) Also, the advice I received in the past is that a camber kit is a "must" for a s'low setup. When I got my springs and kit put in (by a friend) he did a pretty good "eyeball and tape measure" wheel alignment on the car. He told me to drive it home (15km) and NOT drive it any more until it was done properly, which I arranged a couple of days later. Job now done 3 months and about 6000km ago and all good, no undue wear. |

i just went and eyeballed the tyres and it looks like the front is out which may explain the pull to the left. ill take it down to bob jane and see what they think

yes seems like a poor wheel alingment and of course as you know no camber kit . but to answer your question bout the ball joints im taking it your talking bout the lower ones as they always go yes this could cause it and makes it worse having a poor wheel alignment and negitive camber (im pretty sure negitive is when the insde of the tyres wear out correct me if im wrong) but thats why your tyres are wearin out quickly i havent done my camber or w/a and i go through tyres quickly (i just rack the s**t 15's we replace at work) so it dosent really fase me apart from pulling to the left (worse since the old man crashed it ) but get the camber ,ball joints and w/a done and you should be sweet

for christ sake, its obviously because of the wheels not being true to each other for some reason.
you dont have the lazer aligners to do it, so take to tyre or suppension joint!

well they would have done a wheel alignment
but without a camber kit they can only align it so much. the factory gear doesnt exactly allow for suspension changes.

ok guys this is the go...i took it to bob jane and they said that the wheel alignment was s**t house thanks to the wankas that did it and that they shouldnt have worn away that quick. he also said that he can shim or shime out the top of it and make it a little more level up and down and then check to see if it needs a camber kit or not.
they seam to think that it was strange how it had so much wear when commodore rear tyres have negative camber and last over 20000 km's ill let everyone know how it goes, does bob jane sound right |
