hey everyone. i may have been on here for a while but i have no clue about driveline and transmission.
i have an EL 4 speed auto with a stock diff (i think). i want to put a shift kit in but after reading the doco on how to put a shift kit in urself u guys said something about firmness in gear change and also softer. too firm and tailshaft (diff?) can stuff up. kinda worries me. should i go ahead and follow the doco and see how it goes? or change the resistance so its not too firm for the stock diff to stuff up on me. i dun want to lose my diff after 2 months of having it =(. how exactly does a shift kit work? cheers phong =P~

never read doca , ill tell you from the start
about 20% of ef and 10% of std 6cyl diffs have needed rebuilding anyway they dont last forever a shift kit shifts into the next gear quicker by reducing the slippage ( the slippage in a std trans makes a lot smoother shift which is what the normal consumer wants ) and locking up ( nearly) sooner , when it does this it puts a bit more of a load onto the output shaft of the trans , the unis , diff center /axles/bearings etc therefore it prolongs the life of the trans but decreases the life of the last part of the driveline and theoretically reduces fuel and emissions |
