Hi everyone,
Got an NF I6 Fairlane Ghia with all the fruit, needs some minor work done. Can anyone tell me if the steering racks are the same for 6 and 8/ NF or NL / speed sensitive ?? I was told only NL had speed sens steering... My rack has a leak, and a small notchy feel just off centre when driving, and I can pick up a rack from a 5.0 litre for good money. Also, car has a slight hunting/surging when driving slowly up hills. Barely noticeable, but, still annoying. Do NF/EF's have any issues with TPS or fuel pumps? All my old cars have had chrome and carbies, so this is all new to me. LOL. NF Fairlane Ghia, 1994, 4.0 litre, 255,000, auto, Factory everything !!! (even cassette player) 4WD ride height, stock rims, boring...boring...boring Thanks in advance. Bear. |

Be careful with the difference between EF/NF and EL/NL when it comes to steering colomn - the splines are different. You can however swap the top bit of the rack if you need to do so. I6 and v8 are the same, however the I6 has a sensor on it to bump the idle when steering. The V8 will not have this.
I believe you can also go non-speed sensitive on yours, but not sure whether you need to bypass anything etc. Give the search function a go - I have read heaps about this subject in the forum. Good luck! |

Reckon I'll pick up the 5 litre rack anyhow, and take a few photos of them side by side. Soon as this damn christmas thingo gets out the way. |
