My front tyres are starting to scrub on the outside edge, right hand side tyre has lots of play and left hand tyre has some play. Been quoted $230 to repair the steering rack - includes labour, parts and front end alignment. Is that a good price?

Cost me $47 for 2 rack ends, you may have worn tie rods also. the rack could be ok so check this forum first.

Could also be your ball joints, if they are old, it don't help your front wheels ..
And I'd say for that price, it would be a reco'd steering rack .. |

Job done guys. The front steering bushes in the arms were worn out. You could shake the old ones and they would move all over the place - rattle even.
Front end alingment done as well - tyres were inflated to help with fuel economy.
