Hi, I just got an xe as a bit of a project. All gears work except reverse, i thought all it would need was a top up in trany fluid because it was low. After topping it up and running it through the gears no change
Any advice? P.S its auto. Thanks |

Does it want to drive forward in neutral ?

one of my autos in my old XF lost reverse and on the way to a automatic trnasmission place it blew up, so be cautious and maybe change and flush the fluid......

That rubber seal would have come from the rear servo - which applies the rear band for reverse. It occurs from not adjusting the rear band during a service. Because the servo piston has to travel further to apply the band, it pops the seal & usually breaks the band in the process....
If you remove the rear servo, you will find the band apply strut & the broken end of the band sitting on top. |

And whats the cost difference? Thanks Either way is going to be expensive. The XD was the last Falcon to have a 6cyl C4 factory fitted -and then it was an option. So finding one now would be hard - and to fit it to an XE, you need the 6cyl C4 driveplate, cooler lines, T-Bar & linkage etc. And the box you will probably get will need a rebuild - being 32 years old. Cheaper to find a good second hand XE - XF Borg Warner 40 or convert it to manual. |
