No worries peolple.
I'll report what the problem is when I locate and try to remedy it. Seems like the shockies, its the only thing I can think of by process of elimination. It's suppose to have gas shockies on the bag. First time when I compressed the shock it was too easy, hardly any resistance, took 23 seconds to expand Compressed second and third time, took a bit longer to compressm but still took 23 seconds to expand. My BA is pissing me off as well with the similar rattle. Its going into Ford tomorrow for its 20th handbrake cable adjustment and while its on the hoist its getting the back corner carefully looked at and a suss part I have in mind replaced. Hopefully tomorrow I can report with good news as well. If not then the next thing I will look into also is the shocks.

Yep, know what you mean, it's annoying, moreso driving long distances. e.g. 5 hours on the road one way.. Gee, few handbrake adjustments, how come so many. I'll be keen to know what the cause was on yours. I've replaced all rubbers holding the exhaust system in place, 3 were stuffed / cracked. I'm going to get that crack welded up on that curved metal, at least that's one source of noise eliminated. Nothing worse than having metal clanging noises and cant see the culprit (as yet). Grrrr, |

Grrrr, Every 10,000 kays im getting it adjusted because it keeps on coming up high and wont hold the car properly and im anal about it. I hate a handbrake that dosent hold the car properly so I always want it working properly. The BA handbrake on sedans is simply a bad design.

Spewing. Have to cancel the car tomorrow at Ford. They never ordered in the spare part I need until this morning which means it wont arrive in time for tomorrow mornings booking to install.
 Either way sooner rather than later its getting done.

Bit of a bummer that, part not available at the time. It's frustrating to say the least. I'm also in your boat about the handbrake cable. I've replaced the handbrake brakes and found the brake handle coming up far too high, damn near 12 notches....I reckon it should be at 3 notches to hold the car solid without creep. Going to get mine fixed as well. I'll look forward to hearing from you down the track. Cheers |

Update,
I've replaced the rear shocks with new ones. New shocks seem a little shorter compared to the Gabriel Gas. Went for a test drive, metal clanging noise is still there. It isn't the shocks. Gradually getting worse especially driving on Gatton-Clifton Road rough bitumen sections. Up the hoist again next week (Tuesday) to see if that culprit can be found. I did notice one of the straps that secures the fuel tank in position is not correctly seated, even though the strap is tight. I don't think that's the cause of the metal clanging sound. |

Hi Bondy,
Just an update. Got the car back from Ford today and the rattle in the back ended up being the loose handbrake cable rattling against the backing plate. All sorted now with a handbrake adjustment. Will be ok until another few months when the next adjustment is needed. Maybe look into this for your car.

is there a heat shield over the exhaust near the fuel tank? thats not bent or vibrating against something is it? also check the sway bar linkage bolts to the sway bar, i had one drop out before.

Thanks for the update. I do have a slack handbrake cable. I'll definitely have that looked into, It does need adjusting. I'll jack the car's rear again and go over it again, this time I'll be checking both brake links with handbrake off. Local Ford Service Centre in Beenleigh Qld wants to charge $135.00 per hour. Bit steep I think. ********************************************************************************* Hello phatba I have not seen any heat shield near the fuel tank on my vehicle. Exhaust system on my car is on the opposite side of the fuel tank. Sway bar linkage bolts are very secure. Cheers all |

Update,
I had new handbrake shoes fitted some time ago but was never adjusted properly, Handbrake travels very high due to too much slack or stretch. Handbrake handle might also need adjusting to take up slack. I'm wondering if that's the problem that causes the metal banging sound.. loose hand brake cable at the back and maybe the handbrake shoes inside the disc rotor. Everywhere else is solid and no metal structure making rattle noise when hammer applied. |

Thats exactly the issue I said I had with my car. Now sorted after I got Ford to re adjust it.
