I have an EA which has had an EL dash fitted along with computer including all the ignition switch etc. Can't remembet the other box under the LHS of steering. Anyhow every now and again it will not start until the third try. This is a regular a clockwork when it does not start on the first try it allways takes another 2 goes(3 total then starts)
Anyone got any ideas.

3 speed, 4 speed or 5 speed?

When it fails to start will it turn over without firing? turn over, fire & then stall immediately? or not turn over at all?

It turns over OK just does not fire.
I have just done the cyl head gasket and replaced all the ign components while I had the manifold off and it runs as smooth as. The problem existed before I did the head.

Sounds like there is a delay in fuel or spark, most likely fuel.

Try this. Turn the car on (ie. showing warning lights on dash) for a few seconds before trying to start it. This will give the fuel pump (you should hear it hum if it is quiet around you) a chance to put pressure in the fuel rail before you start cranking. This will show if the pressure regulator is slowly leaking the extra pressure back to the tank.

From what I can hear the pump whirs then stops or it sounds like it stops. If it gets less windy here later I will have a listen to see if it actually keeps running but quieter. When you turn on the ign you definitly hear the pump start then sounds like when pressure is up it stops.
