hi
im about to change the steering rack on my eb xr8 i was quoted $550 for a reco fitted. i was advised to put a cooler on the power steering . because i have extractors it will cause more heat than normal. do you think this is an overkill. ive had the car for aprox 2 years with no real probs with the steering. what do you think????????? thanks |

Overkill if you ask me, the most cooling the latest BA even have is just a long pipe that goes back and forth accross the front of the car, I wouldnt bother.

Just grab any old auto tranny cooler and route ur power steer return thru it. Cant hurt, doesnt take long and doesnt cost much.
Jase ended up doing it on his car after splitting a hose.. ended up a quick roadside fix

i might consider putting one on as one of the lines looks a bit suss.
the suspension place recomended it because the extractors are close to the metal part of the line.. thanks guys.... |

Of course this is little help, if any at all.... actually ALL the 5.0 v8s have a power steering cooler.... it more of a inline raditor on the top pipe ( it about 1" think i think from memory as the power steering pump is above the passenger side exhaust i got a EF/EL tranny cooler and placed that on my powersteering line works a treat! i would say do it! the cooler the fluid is the better it will be!

I've got the external auto tranny cooler for the tow pack, so my built in one on the radiators not being used. maybe you can use that for it?

You are suppose to use both of them together!

wont hurt to have a cooler, it'll make the fluid and rack last a lil longer
m8 of mine has an EB GT and flushes the power steering fluid every oil change

You are suppose to use both of them together! Don't see any advantage in using the original one - three reasons, one it's closer to the engine (so getting the engine heat at stand still), two its connected to the coolant radiator so getting the heat from the coolant too, and 3 the external cooler is in front of it so blocking some of it's air flow. I don't reckon it'd make much or any difference if I did use it, plus if it's not good enough to use with the tow pack. |

I'm just saying that is the way they aremeant to be fitted. I realise there are many cars out there not using the radiator oil cooler.
