Im making room for an intercooler on my eb and am contemplating positioning the trans cooler behind the RHS of the front bumper, (in front of the RHF wheel). Will this place have insufficient air flow or do the coolers work enough from pumping the oil thru the cooler no matte where it is. I understand that they work better with air flow obviously, but my question is will it work ENOUGH where i want to put it?
Please let me know what you think. |

I was just thinking there is no point moving the auto cooler if you still had the dryer there (obvious i know but you can never be to sure these days).
Would you be better off modifying the steel lines and running it on the left side and not bothering about the small cooler pipe in the radiator. Just thinking you would have shorter lines then and not staining the oil pump in the tranny as much plus have more effective cooling as the cycle of oil would be faster. I would suggest some more air flow from somewhere either a hole in the bumper or a large pipe from the centre of the car?

people always think the radiator heats up the tranny oil. The extreme temps the oil gets to, the radiator is like a block of ice (exaggerated) even when hot. i have autometer sensors in both radiator and tranny. Rad gets to 180F before fans come on, tranny has been spotted up at 250f on a hot day.
Not keen on putting holes in bar but the pipe idea sounds good. Thanks |

I haven't heard that but yeah the pipe in the rad acts as a oil cooler.
Have you had lines made up for the dryer yet?

Nah not really, ask the next a/c guy you come across im sure he would give you a couple for nothing. Other than that you would probably have to get a o-ring kit from repco.

'mr.kiss' on here has his trans cooler there in his BA XR6T, has a thermo fan on it though.
Seems to work, can hear it come on when you pull the car up after a thrashing, and then turn off after a bit. Be even easier for you with the temp sensor in the pan, t piece thermatic switch sensor from there?
